UPDATE!!!!! 6-12-20
After only 3 months of use.The Cardone Power Steering Module/Motor that I installed just died on me. This time I ordered a ACDELCO Motor, (little more expensive) hopefully this one will last, RockAuto is giving me store credit for the cardone which will go towards the ACDELCO Motor. 6-21-20 Well I put in the New acdelco motor and still didn't work turned out the fuse conections were dirty fuse #43 here's a post i made on the subject. http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2346947#post2346947 I'll post updates on how well it holds up. Here's a link to the New Motor. ACDELCO Motor https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/saturn,2007,ion,2.2l+l4,1433443,steering,power+steering+assist+motor,14498

I had to replace the motor after it failed on two different ocasions.
I was able to have it work again by restarting the engine before replacement of the motor. I no longer have problems.
I took the original moter apart to look inside. The only thing I found
was black dust from the brushes. I will spray the brushes and comutator with no residue spray cleaner and keep it for a spare. That's the only thing I think that could cause it to fail. Beware, the motor and parts are highly magnetic.

Have you had any issues with the more expensive module so far?

Joe says:

Where did you purchase the module from?

I was moving my Saturn Ion out of the driveway @ 4 MPH when the power steering went out. I couldn't turn the steering wheel at all. It was impossible, 1000 times worse than armstrong steering, if you're old enough to have driven a car with no power steering. There were a bunch of accidents people died yet GM refused to fix the problem. GM got out of the claims due to bankruptcy. I sold my Saturn, and sold the Saturn I bought for my son. What I thought was a good car, was a Death Trap;

Have a 2007 saturn ion I purchased used in 2009. Since then I have had 5 power steering motors replaced – going on #6. The first 4 were under recall so I didn't have to pay. #5 I had to pay $350 approximately because recall is no longer valid. That was in June 2019. Now in May 2020, no power steering again. Didn't even last a year. I was told in 2010 when I had my first one replaced by the mechanic at the saturn dealer that "I would be back in a year or 2" because he said "GM was not repairing or modifying the faulty power steering motor, so they will be continuing to put in a faulty part that will only last a short while. "But what do you care," he said, " it's under recall so you don't have to pay. Just keep bringing it back when the steering goes and we'll put another one in." Shame on GM for recalling something but not fixing the problem. Instructing your mechanics to put in a part you know is going to break is ridiculous – and now it's a continued great expense and not just a nuisance. And it is dangerous also.
