Helpful video with SH**Y MUSIC! Why put annoying music insted of pure sound of a garage?

Robin Forrest says:

Yep thanks for this. I think I'm going to try and do my 1999 9-5 2.0T. Reckon I should be able to save around 300€ if I order the parts and do it myself.
I notice two red MX5 NAs in the garage in your last shot. You have good taste my man!
I'm busy doing corrosion repairs on my at the moment and will get on to the Saab as soon as that's finished.

Swear to you, called esaabparts tonight to edit an order I made and spoke to Matt. Few hours later, here I am watching this video. Haha. It's nice to see another '04 9-5. They're not super common around my area.

You made a kind of weird decision replacing the brakes with stock parts when you had the perfect opportunity to replace the shitty 9-5 front brakes with the much better NG9-3 ones.

314mm or even 345mm Turbo X brakes are a direct fit onto any 9-5 from 2002 and up. All that is needed is a 9-5 to NG9-3 brake line conversion kit, two cuts plus some hammering to the dust shield and grinding off a few mm of the 9-5 carrier bolts so they don't interfere with the thicker NG9-3 brake rotors.

The only extra cost would have been the calipers and the brake lines on top of the parts you needed anyway, now the upgrade would mean discarding almost new pads and rotors 😛

Thumbs up, but please loose the annoying music. Thanks, vinny. Great video buddy.

Might as change out the brake lines to steel braided ones and new brake fluid while you're at it.

Autopsy I have a question I have the 2006 Saab 9-3 aero I have been having trouble with my abs on my cluster it will pop up tht my abs and antilock breaks are off but when it runs it's check everything checks out it only pops up on the cluster it's driving me crazy cause sometimes it will start and ride perfect but sometimes it will throw that the abs and traction control is off and my car will not start do you have any advice. thanks!

Gabriel Soria says:

Brake clean is to remove the oil coating on the new rotors because of course you don't want to lubricant between the rotor and pad, not nessary for anything else 😉 unless you want it to look nice.

And thank you for not putting anti-seize on the pins or glides, as that will ironically make them seize up. But for the Saabs it's a must to put anti-seize on the hub if you don't want to spend time driving with slightly loose bolts slamming on the brakes and hitting bumps to get them loose. A dead blow hammer or 5 lbs hammer with wood as a cooshen definitely didnt help remove the rims :-/

I have a 04 ARC with the same brakes and engine, but with a softer suspension and neutered ECU. But think I'll get an upgraded intercooler before I tune it, the stock one is worthless in city traffic.

Nice video! 18 months ago I put the same exact combo in my 2008 SAAB 9-5. Bought the Hella rotors from my local auto parts store for $114 including tax. Paid $70 for the Akebono front pads.

While I'm happy with all, for my next set of pads I'm going to replace the ceramics with semi-metallic. For my driving, I liked the quick grip of the semi-metallic. Don't get me wrong, the Akebono pads are fine, yet are more linear. The semi-metallic pads are also much better in stop & go driving. Ceramic pads aren't quite as good in the wet.

nice colour the gun metal grey!

If your into Saabs, check out my channel as well. I rebuilt an entire 2002 saab 9-3. Have tons of saab content and other reviews

Siarhei Hanush says:

you need to use zimmerman as for brake rotors and trw or textar as for brake pads!

Paul Sampson says:

those Torx E-20s can be a nightmare for this job. I don't know why they couldn't have given just a little more clearance so that you didn't have to remove the mounts to change the rotors.

Clams McGee says:

Are those halogen housings?
Thought all Aeros had xenons

Mark Adams says:

Why does my temperature gage not go down to the normal place that stops halfway

Luis Gonzalez says:

Any idea where to find the weather strip for the hatch on a 1997 saab 900?? Looked everywhere and they are discontinued .

Boogeyman B says:

Shock absorber also need to replacement

Does anyone know if esaabparts ships international. I’m in Australia at the moment and Saab’s out here are rare, especially manuals. A few legendary mechanics in Sydney but they charge hefty prices.
