SAAB 9-3 Climate Control Button Replacement 2003-2006

Many 03-06 Saab 9-3’s have their climate control buttons wear away. To replace them and make the buttons look new again isn’t too hard, and just takes patience. I show you how to replace worn off buttons on an 03-06 SAAB 9-3.

My Friends Call Me John says:

Your climate control actuators need to be pulled and re-greased. It's not terribly difficult, they pull apart easily. Mine were noisy like yours. Super smooth now.

Steven MacQuarrie says:

The little nubs that hold in the temperature up/down buttons break without trying. Even being careful won't help. I had to buy a whole new unit just to swap out the face. The buttons also can easily unseat or go on crooked… and stay crooked after snapping things back together. This repair is not easy.

DiggingNorway says:

Thank you, but I would have been even better if you showed how you removed the clips, you move very fast and I am kind of stuck. How do I press to "remove the clips"… I dont want to break something

John Georgakis says:

Nice video but it would nice to show the whole button installation if you could.

David Francis says:

Just did this today on 2006 9-3 with the Dorman kit. Some tips: as mentioned by others, the front bezel surrounding the buttons will come off without removing all the extra as done in the video. Once you pull the cluster out of dash and examine it, it should be fairly obvious which clips hold front bezel on. If you buy the Dorman button kit, BE VERY CAREFUL as the male tabs can break off – I was being fairly delicate but one did break off and I had to glue. When you install a new button, you may notice the pressing "action" doesn't feel quite right: after installing a couple, I realized that the top right and left corners of each button needed to be GENTLY seated further with a little help from small screwdriver. Gently nudge each button corner into it's "L" fitting and your pressing action should feel like original.

Dude says:

$3 for good buttons at the U-Pull-It.

Dra Dikketrip says:

agent10cc says:

I skipped taking the back off and followed the extra tips below- thank you worked well

agent10cc says:

I can’t get the clips off. This video is overly simplified. Can anyone show me a video of how to get the clips to release?

ShoX says:

LOL 255$ for plastic buttons hahahha … There is a perfect fine sticker set for like a $14 or so… For 250$ I will print new buttons myself

Kevin EG5 says:

Someone ever tried the facelift unit with the round switches to fit in? Is it p&p? I drive a my06 and the buttons start to wear. And the FL unit is on ebay for like 60€ in good shape.

The Saab Wrench says:

check out my saab channel!

deciBeats says:

Save your time guys, the link provided asks $239.61 for a few grams of plastic. That is CRAZY !

YesUCan says:

Just followed the link and about tossed my lunch – not $60, try $235 for some plastic buttons. Ummm, no thank you.

Bondo says:

you can now buy just the laminent that covers the buttons rather than swapping the whole unit. I had no idea it was that easy

Greg Fox says:

Great! thanks

Jim Kretz says:

I discovered broken plastic parts in the controller and so purchased a new switch panel, all snapped together perfectly and now the heated seats do not work. I was told I would need the climate control computer reprogrammed any clues where to turn now?

J Pogera says:

no need to do all the removing just pry front cover
