Suggestion. You should move the coolant overflow reservoir towards the passenger side and getting the 3 bolts is a piece of cake.

Andrew Flewelling says:

This was helpful, informative. I have a 2000 9-3 convertible, 88k miles. The check engine light came on last night. I noticed the temperature gauge did not move after roughly half an hour of driving/30 miles. Does a bad thermostat or sensor trigger the check engine light?

Mcdonald Cantor says:

What I notice on my 05 arc cv. Is that coming down from a hill It happened twice once when it was like 40 degrees F at night and the other time happened coming down a hills at 80 degrees F outside temperature my temperature gauge starts falling down once i reach a level surface goes back to normal.. I notice the coolant reservoir was boiling? Like when you put a pot and water on the stove and it's boils..

Beau Hatman says:

what you shouldn't be doing is kneeling on top of your engine compartment……..

Sylvester Reynolds says:

I took a flathead screw driver and hammer to tap until it loosened…was much easier….but good job

daniel de la cruz says:

I dot know if you can help, I have a P0116 code, and already change the temperature sensor. I think I need to change the thermostat because I sill have the same code even after replacing the sensor temperature. Thanks

Toothless Bull Dog 2.0 says:

Hi, terrific vid, can you share your comments, I have a 2004 vector 93, after start and use the car for a while, stop the car, wait for a while and the coolant has gone, it is temperature or thermostast problem?, or my water pump has gone?

Richie Kis says:

Does it make sense that remove coolant expansion tank for get more space?

Amphibian Effect says:

I had to do the same thing when my thermostat went bad. I made a mistake in over-tightening a bolt on the Thermostat Housing and so i had to rig it so it would seal, careful everyone when you're torquing those bolts, they don't need a lot

ElectricPrunes says:

Thank you! Having a similar issue with my temp gauge turning off and shutting off the A/C compressor as it sees it as the engine overheating. Going to try this first before anything else.

"Saab, great engines…just upside down and backwards."

Nicole Cadow Johnson says:

Hi! I have a 2007 Saab 9-3 2.8 turbo sport combi. I bought her 4 months ago. I got home yesterday and about ten minutes later my neighbor came out and said my car was on fire. I went out and it had obviously overheated and sprung a big leak and it was coolant steaming off the engine. I had no warning bells go off while driving, neither in the electronic display nor the temp gauge alerted me to anything. I did notice that the air hasn't wanted to get cool and the fan stayed on after I turned the car off, but I thought I needed an AC service and was told, "it's European, the fan is supposed to be on."

I lifted the hood and the reservoir had split at the seams… I'm assuming that's because my thermostat is non-operable… or at least I hope. I'm hoping you can tell me where to look? because I know it's different and miserably difficult to change for a thermostat, but I can't find it at all. Do I have to take the heat shield off the turbo to see it? Or is it further under the reservoir and I have to remove that to see? There is no room between the engine and hood back there like in this 2.0 vid….

Also, I'm hearing you have to buy the whole housing for the 2.8l, is that true?

Please Press Start says:

Cool vid. I’ve recently picked up a 2006 9-3 Arc and going through it, after owning a c900 Aero and now also have a 9000 Aero …
I’ve notice the 9-3 has oil around the bottom of the plastic thermostat housing, from your experience what would this be coming from?

Caffina says:

Thermostat for what?

Israel Toro says:

Where is the location on your Aero xwd?

Alex B says:

hello, i have a Saab 9-3, 1.8 turbo, runs all well, opens up fun well. i have done trouble shooting on water pump and seems all okay. the car runs great, powerful, no over heating. after driving up a hilly road, the coolant starts coming out of reservoir and gets warning, low coolant. what could be the problem.

Edward Welcher says:

aye man appriciate you helping uss saabs out ^-^

Joey says:

I have a 2007 Saab 9-3 and while I was replacing the thermostat on it one of the bolt holes snapped off on the thermostat housing and I was considering getting a metal replacement one for it. Would that be wise or should I just get OEM? And also there seems to be a tricky hose running from it into the engine where the is no room for pliers so do you have any tips for that?

Art Sarkisyan says:

Just made a video on the same thing but focusing more on how get that 3rd bolt out with good camera angles. Check it out. I couldn't have gotten as far in my video without your help so thanks a ton! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7njKusdVn-c&feature=youtu.be
