OM says 0-w40 Mobil 1 oil (yes that brand) only 0-w30 oil if you have to.

I just purchased a 2008 9-3, this cars are well build, but very different, and a bit more complicated. I started my oil change at 10:30 pm I was not able to find the oil filter, and no one to help, but thank to this video I did my oil change in minutes, THANK YOU FOR SHARING.

I used 5w-30

Ted Sammons says:

Thanks for the video, you made my oil change extremely easy!!!

I think the reason is because if you look at a 2.2 eco boost chevy cavalier the engine looks basically the same the filter is in the same spot and the newer the saabs got the closer they became to looking like a chevy the suv version of the saab interior was basically the same of a trailblazer

27-33 mpg??? Man, seems like a great car. Still trying to find one of this gen.
Weird place for the filter though. You would absolutely need a ratchet extension right? Still, not a deal breaker.

thanks for the video. It was a good point of referance!

thanks for the video bro! much help

DIY Tinker says:

Hi, you are welcome!
1. yes, its 32mm ill correct it in the video.
2. no, you dont need to replace the washer at the oil drain plug.
3. This is a sensitive topic. you should follow the manufacture’s recommendation. But if i use a high quality filter (e.g. mobile 1) and full synthetic oil, then i typically wait for 7500 miles or 6 months and my car’s been running good. giving me 27 to 33 miles per gallon.

Thanks for sharing. I recently purchased a 2003 Saab 9-3 and this video encourages me to change the oil myself.
I have few questions:
– in the video you show a 32 mm socket but during the filter replacement you are referring to a 38 mm socket. Which size is right ?
– do I need to replace the washer for the oil drain plug ?
– is it true that if I use synthetic it is good for 10K and if I use regular 10W30 is good only for 5K ?

Nice video. The dealer made it sound like a big deal….

DIY Tinker says:

Sounds great. I am not sure what the manufacturer recommends. but I would replace the oil between 5000km to 9000km.

Hi guys,
I’ve one questions: How many Kilometers to change the engine oil each time ?
I’m getting some information from the web, and thinking to change engine oil by myself

0w, 5w and 10w are the viscosity grades. you can use higher W during summer and the manufacturer one during winter. 5w is good. dont worry about the 0w. Wikipedia “Motor oil” explains it.

‘GM said no.’

DIY Tinker says:

Ya, this is an obnoxious design. Wonder why they did this in the first place :S

SaabNeverDies says:

What an obnoxious design. The 2K8 2.8t is much less retarded – the canister is beneath the car.

Donald Cohens says:

No problem. Great vid

DIY Tinker says:

oh, good to know. thx!

Donald Cohens says:

The 2.0T takes 0w-30, not 10w-30
