03-09 Saab Mirror Glass Replacement/Upgrade

In this vid I replaced/upgraded my driver mirror glass to an aspherical unit. US models only had the special blind spot mirror (aspherical) on the passenger side while the Euro models were opposite. If you’re only looking for the (US version) stock replacement glass and backing plate check out Dorman products:
Driver: #56708
Passenger: #56709

I have managed to F this up on a few 9-5s where the motor tabs get broken. The power dimming mirrors on Saabs don't last. I am probably just going to get a stick on mirror they make. Its not ideal but I don't care about the defrost feature.

I've been able to pry it off but when I put the mirror back on it it never connects with mirror to make it move around.

Old plastic just doesn't work for me.

2 Steak Sandwiches says:

The auto dims on the 9-5 are hard to get. And stupid. They all fail in a short amount of time. I won’t miss that feature when I replace mine next week.

Cyclone Cyd says:

This will depend on where in the world you live, but if the mirror heating/demist function is important to you, then I'd suggest sticking to OE glass. Cheaper aftermarket mirrors tend to have way less powerful heaters on them that sometimes barely work at all. Note too, that the mirror heat comes on and off with HRW.

Who was waiting for a new one crack too on end?

Wish I could find the clip ring part# as my mirror falls off when hitting a pothole or going through a carwasher… at least the 2 wired ends prevent the mirror from detaching! I would hate to buy a replacement mirror plus back-piece for around $80 bucks when I only the clip?!?

Thx mate. Just look for that kind of tutorial to replace mirror in my Saab.

Alan Binger says:

Needle-nose pliers and a paint can opener worked well to release that pesky spring.

Miroslav Dakov says:

This is the best demonstration video for replacing your mirrors. Once you locate the springs, the mirror pops out in less than a minute. Really great video. Thanks!
