Porsche 996 911 Front Hood Strut & Rear Hatch Strut Replacement DIY (Carrera, Targa, Turbo, & GT3)

Porsche 996 911 Front Hood Strut & Rear Hatch Strut Replacement DIY (Carrera, Targa, Turbo, & GT3)

►Replacing Porsche 996 hood struts and rear hatch struts are one of the easiest DIYs you can complete that will make your day-to-day life easier. There’s nothing worse than putting something in the “frunk” or working on the engine in the rear and having the lid shut on your head. The alternative is carrying that perfect length piece of wood to prop it open, but rather than be caught with that look, for less than the price of a dinner out, you can replace the struts yourself.

While we’re completing this hood and hatch strut replacement on the 996 911, it’s also applicable to the 986 Boxster. On both cars, the only tool you will need to complete this job is a simple tool pick. Follow along as Michael Hidalgo, our resident Porsche 996 expert, demonstrates the steps.
