HI Ken, Great video thanks. Just replaced both my 997 keys. Can you tell me what track (music) is playing in the background thanks..

David Gravalese says:

Great video. I'm stuck at removing the transponder and the connectors. The 2 steps you cut out. Any advise on getting these out?

Stanley Szeto says:

Ken, i wish I watched your video before I attempted to remove the transponder from the old key. In short, I damaged the transponder (cut it in half) when I tried to remove it. Not surprisingly, even placing the two halves of the damaged transponder in the new key, the car wouldn't start. What can I do to get the transponder replaced? Many thanks.

JSBPhotorebel says:

thanks for the video.. did my swap.. doors would unlock, but car wouldnt start… it was the transponder pill i forgot to transfer to the new fob, your vid helped me realize that.

The link goes to a shell without a Porsche logo and only 2 buttons. Why is yours different?

Thank you! This is the best of all the videos on the topic of replacing the shell of a 997/987 key with the ebay key shell.
I suggest adding "replace" or "replacement " to your title to help more searchers to find this.
Also, more video about how to remove and transplant the brass battery clips and transponder would be helpful.
And, if you're going to destroy the original key when removing the transponder (the original key can be saved, with great patience) then you can save the original Porsche 997/987 key crest (which Porsche does not sell), and order the otherwise identical, crest-less $12 ebay key shell, which provides a recess that fits the original crest. The crest on the one you (and I) used, which is printed steel, is pretty good as fakes go, but the original, in cast brass, is better.
