Porsche 911 (991) DIY Brake Replacement | HUGE SAVINGS!

Porsche 911 (991) DIY Brake Replacement | HUGE SAVINGS!

In this video I talk about why you should do it yourself (DIY) the brake replacement on your Porsche 911 (991). I initially wanted to do this at the dealer, but when I found out how much dealers were charing for a simple brake job, I decided to do this in my garage. It’s a pretty simple job if you have the right tools, which I explain in detail in this video.

Video Timeline:
• 0:40 – Why you should DIY
• 1:50 – How much I spent in parts
• 2:40 – About the parts
• 5:58 – Required tools
• 8:21 – Additional tools
• 14:10 – Brake replacement timelapse

Tutorial I used to prepare for this job: • https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/991/334425-diy-carrera-s-front-brake-pad-replacement.html (just be aware that the rear is slightly different than the front, especially on how the brake line is connected to the calipers)

Videos I watched while preparing for this job:
• How to change brake pads on Porsche 981, 991, 718, 911, Boxster, Cayman, GT4. Repair rotors Brembo: https://youtu.be/xJAHyLbJsWo (this was probably the most useful video I found. The process is similar for several Porsche models, including the 991)
• Porsche 911 Girodisc Brake Job: https://youtu.be/nqHMu6Lqfco (this guy has spacers, but other than that it’s pretty similar)

do factory Porsche brake pads generate a lot of dust like factory Mercedes brake pads?
factory Mercedes brake pads generate horrible amount of dust, wheels looks like they are covered with soot in couple days after cleaning.

I would say that the dealer does NOT always replace the rotors, they replace the rotors when needed. Normally only the pads are needed to be replaced. If you do some basic racing, you do not need the wear sensors, since you would have good control of your pads and replace them way before the sensors would give any alarm.

Also, how did the job come out after you drove it? How did it feel? Did you do the fronts too? I also have 45% wear on my fronts and 25% left on the rears.

Hi Carlos – thank you for doing this video! I was searching the web for months to see if anyone had done a 991.2 and there were none – so I backed off doing my own brakes for my 991.2 base Carrera. I need to follow someone's lead having never done this before. I loved your intro but then you fast-forwarded through the job which had me cursing over here, lol. I need the normal speed version please. I think we'd all like that, it's the only way I can follow step by step. Can you oblige? or perhaps send vid to me by PM? By the way, You Tube likes longer content videos these days anyway so you'll get more benefit from those channel metrics.
