How to Replace a Hood Strut FAST! (Porsche 996 Turbo)

How to Replace a Hood Strut FAST! (Porsche 996 Turbo)

Hi Everyone,

The hood (bonnet) struts on the 996TT have been failing and getting to the point that, when cold, will clock you on your noggin! Not fun… In this episode I go through the super easy process of replacing them. Works on porsche 996/986 911/Boxster The pair isn’t expensive and total time is less than 10min!

Tools and parts:

• Porsche 986 996 Front Hood Strut (set 2) OEM Stabilus https://goo.gl/6gC4uX
• Small screwdriver
• Hood Prop
• Cleaning rag
• Dab of grease.
• Safety glasses

Most modern cars are similar – just hunt down the correct struts and you are all set! Older Porsches are similar, but you have to remove and replace a pin instead of ball joints.

Can you do a video on how to fix one leaking hydraulic for the rear spoiler without breaking the bank?

wakkadakkaify says:

AudiS4orce1 says:

What grease did you use? Is it really needed? Can I use a spray lube instead?

Love the car hope all has been well!

James Eli says:

Love your videos – If you have not already, Could you PLEASE do a video on replacing the front hood struts on your 993? That DIY would be very helpful.

Thanks for the video. Another nice job!

haendel2004 says:

Well, I need to change my M3's trunk struts. But I need a 356 to do the job…lol

mondogarage says:

Would love to…I was thinking first nice Saturday after Groundhog Day, whatever works best for you. Let's do lunch again soon, though this week is out for me.

Dave Meyer says:

Franny, what type of grease are you using there? Was that easier than replacing the decklid shocks on Shamoo2, or roughly the same?

Andrew Moorhouse says:

The thumbnail had me laughing! Never realised they were so easy to replace. You can teach an old dog (like me) new tricks!

christurbo951 says:

To prop up the trunk, I usually just put some vise grips on one of the bad struts. I wish I had a 356 to bungy to lol. Great job!!!
