Air-cooled Porsche 911 Door Stay DIY Repair

Air-cooled Porsche 911 Door Stay DIY Repair

Replacement of Porsche 911 door stay and installation of reinforcement plates for damaged door sheetmetal. Easy DIY you can do in an afternoon.

Additional Notes:
1. This applies for all 911s up to 1989.
2. The same door stay works on the left or right side.
3. Some loud hammering so headphone users beware.
4. If you add reinforcement plates, measure the outer plate cutout height so it clears the door stay pin mounting tabs before installing. If necessary it would be good to add clearance with a Dremel or grinder beforehand. Skip to 23:32 for details.
5. Please take all necessary safety precautions. Not responsible for any personal injury or vehicle damage.

I've a 1996 993 C2 iris blue metallic, 60,000 miles, 6-speed manny tranny. My door stays are fine. I've seen other videos, on this topic, and yours, not surprisingly, is very thorough.

Hi Joe, Great Video ! keep the good work. i had to do the same for the same reasons. unfortunatly forme the damage inside where bigger than yours and i had to adapt 2 bigger plate.
One question : in your set it seems that they gave you a glue to fix the plate on. did you use it? i would advise to do so, because in my case i figure out that with time and car vibrations the bolts seems to loose out and you might have some play between the metal pieces.
i know that i have to redo it all over again cause i didn't use glue as well.
keep posting man.
