You have a gas torch right??? I’d hit those trouble spots with some heat.
You’ll save a ton of time. If you want to pre-stretch some areas, you’ll
also save some time. Just smack the metal over a hollow in a stump. Also,
continue your form PAST the end of the piece. That will help the end of the
piece be a tangent curve rather than a straight section. Then cut to
length. Fun to watch for sure.
Three pieces, four, doesn’t mattter, you’ve had to make puzzle pieces for
other places on the car. What matters is the end result and that is going
to be fantastic. Keep hammerin away my friend, you’ve got it surrounded!
Have you tried a releif cut on the upper flange part near the sharp
corners? It should release the tension and allow the hammer to work more
effectively. You can always weld up the slices.
Lots of work and its starting to look good. A shrinker and stretcher would
be quite handy in this project. Take a look at user “lazzemetalshaping” I’m
sure you will find some useful tips there. Take care, be safe! Get more

I would have given up by now and tried to find another way round the
problem. You have a lot more patience than me.
Can’t you just make one long straight one using a concave dolly? Then
relief slice and make the “S” shape?

Thanks Jim, I think I’ll make a T dolly out of some 1″ round stock and give
that a try
Thanks Greg, I expect you’re very right, I’ll give heat a try, no matter
what minimally it’ll stress relieve the work hardened steel.

Thanks!

Yup, I’d really like to take one of Lazze’s metalshaping courses. More
goats, absolutely, I’d like a mid 60s one 🙂
