The Pontiac 400 cubic inch motor (made between 1967 and 1979) is still a great platform for a high-performance daily driver. The HorsePower guys prove that by extracting a 400 from a junkyard, machining the block and rebuilding it on a two-thousand dollar budget. The results of this recycled-power project are pretty impressive when it’s dyno time.

the cost is like listening to mc donalds teach everyone else not working there , that anyone can pay for a car, insurance, living quarters, and eat a pack of ramen noodles yearly on 40 hrs per week. We all know, it can not be done.
ive heard some folks put down the 400 for the 1975 trans am because that was the year Pontiac was dumbing-down the motor due to epa regs. .my question is would a 1975 pontiac trans am 400 motor be able to accept these same mods that you guys are doing?
What kind of impact is he using?
That motor seems to be designed to leak oil with that valley pan being held down with 2 bolts and those rope main seals.
Anyone ! Are the 400s related to the GTO. 389s ? Which is better ?
No new arp rod bolts.???? Resized rods are shorter =less compression that either head has little of ??? Lame cam !!? … Lucky it made 300 H P. Do The Right Thing PUT IT BACK IN THE WAGON .THATS WHAT IT IS GOOD FOR ! ! ! TRAILER TOTER P.S. QUIT SHOTBLASTING THE BLOCKS TO CLEAN THEM… WHERE IS THE SHORTER TIMING CHAIN TO GO WITH THE ALIGN HONED MAINS ? ? ? DOUBT IT WAS DONE FOR 2 Gs ?
You should have put some heavy grease on the contact area of that rope seal
I cringed when they put the quadrajunk on it…
No need to break in an engine?
Doesn’t edelbrock make an RPM package for this? Had to make more power even with those heads, but I port everything, and definitely would this.
You forgot to set the crankshaft thrust
WHAT ABOUT GTO
"budget" where they have half the parts in stock which they consider free.
Fakin masters i say
How can I get yall to build a super late model engine for me
What else could I do without welding the pickup tube
What was the compression ratio?
i had lots of those 400s
