Pontiac Oil Pump Install and More

Getting closer to getting this thing back together. Ended up putting the pick up back into the stock location due to clearnace issues with the stock pan.

I don't like using the oil pump to block gasket. If a chunk of the gasket were to blow out you'd have a .030 by 1/4" or more leak in the pressure side. I install the pump directly to the block. I've seen to many gasket failures causing low oil pressure and engine damage.

, if you put the oil pickup on a angle to the bottom of the pan, you will create a low presser zone , consing captivation, and you be sucking air bubbles , just air OK witch i think be better,,,,, then you will be making air bubbles mix with the remaining oil that will create violent pusher changes on baring surfaces , parts be bouncing around on there journal axes-es ,, ,, 🙂 anyhow lets hope you dont run out/low on oil and de-side to race some one holding the engine at high RPM`s and pool all oil on top motor running it dry 🙂 this just my opinion 🙂

You could eat off the valve covers on every car I own. Why change filters in your engine bay if your engine bay is filthy? I could replace a headlight bulb in any car I own, wearing a white, long sleeve shirt, and never get it dirty.

Make sure you verify the engagement between the distributor driven gear and the oil pump shaft to oil pump. Pontiacs have been known to pinch the oil pump shaft down hard enough to push the gears in the pump against the bottom plate. I started double gasketing my distributor to avoid the issue.
