Pontiac G6 Rear Speaker Installation

Pontiac G6 Rear Speaker Installation

How to access and replace the rear speakers in a Pontiac G6. Mine is a 2008 G6 but i believe this will apply to most years. This video focuses mainly on process of accessing the speakers for replacement. Plan on this process (and it IS a process) taking the better part of 2 hours, and leave room to remove the seat out of one of the rear doors before you start. It was a pain in the butt, however it was well worth it as the new speakers, even with a factory (non-Monsoon) radio, sounds so much better when it’s done.

Are the stock speakers 3 ohm like these JBLs? The fronts I believe are 4 ohm. Strange.

weelgunny says:

This probably applies to the same year Malibu also.

hendrixnut64 says:

WTF??? I watched the other guys video twice, went outside and had all 4 speakers out in a half hour…your front speaker vid is good…but this is way too involved…LOLOL

亦賀キヤスリン says:

Yow, all that to replace speakers?

Arcticcatzz440 says:

Hey SH72, I helped my friend replace his rear speakers and we twisted the positive of the tweeter and speaker, connected to positive of new speaker and negatives of each to the negative of the new speaker.. Any volume it has tons of distortion. Any tips on what to do?

Shadowborg says:

Why the fuck do they make it so you have to take half the damn interior out to change speakers. I remember in some older cars you would just pop off a grille, unbolt the speaker, unplug the old, plug in the new, bolt it in, and pop the grille back on.

Vanessa Rodriguez says:

thinking its micheal cera behind the camera and teaching me how to install some speakers

Thanks for the video, I was trying to take the deck out without removing the seats. However, wish I'd read the comments before I started this project because I too have the monsoon system. Havent even seen how speakers are wired but since I have my car apart already might as well see if I can figure out a way around the wiring issue. If I do, I will post.

Daniel Richardson says:

Great video, I just completed this same job with the help of this video. It was a lot of work, but i enjoy doing stuff like this by hand. Only thing that would have been nice is to overlay text or something to list tools needed to complete the job. Thanks again!

Bre5hawn TV says:

great video, it helped me out alot and saved me money, it was actually easier than it looked, thanks great job

SurferJoe71 says:

Great video Good Old GM Over engineered rear shelf but paper crap speakers go figure ….I'm sure it sounds Way better I'm glad my 1997 Pontiac Bonneville rear deck was a lot easier

RapMastaC1 says:

Thank you for uploading this video. Did you know this job can be done without removing the lower seat portion? All you have to do is lower the seats, take the pillars out, take out the four bolts on the deck on the upper seat backs, and pull the deck out. The tutorials on the G6 Forums all recommended the above steps over taking the whole thing out. Now on the coupe it is necessary to take the entire seat out.

jorge Casiano says:

So the aftermarket speaker has different connectors ? Thanks for the video

Shane Harvey says:

Karlfalcon says:

Dear god, why were these cars so horribly over-engineered…

nukemhight13 says:

awesome video, but I have a coupe, just gonna have to pay the local audio shop for the installation lol

Tony Courcoic says:

So, the part when you unscrew the bolts, i accedentaly detahced the wires, and pushed my seat up, and now i cant put my seats back down. Any help please.

Metalunique says:

Im gonna try to just pop off the grills. Even if I have to glue them back in

Zack Vahn says:

How did it end up working out? I'm about to install a set of MTX Terminators in the front and back, with a factory head unit and I'm just worried about it being underpowered, etc. I just kinda wanna get it back to AT LEAST factory sound, and this is cheaper than buying the factory speakers ($75 per speaker, not pair, at my local dealership, more for the 9" in the back.)

Metalunique says:

I'll be doing my girlfriends g6 tomorrow…. Thanx for Sharin' this info! But man, no wonder Pontiac went out of business. You should see what I had to go through to replace the radio! Smdh I'll post my progress as I go along

Kyle Gierman says:

I have a Coupe… this is going to be interesting 🙁

Chronuswing says:
