My 2008 Pontiac Torrent, which has been surprisingly reliable, has finally broken down and left me stranded on the side of the road. The mechanic diagnosed the issue, and quoted me $2500 to repair it. When I told him I’d rather repair it myself, he warned me I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. Did I bite of more than I can chew? Or will I save a ton of money and get back on the road?
This website was a great resource, providing step by step instructions on how to do this job:

While I had the engine disassembled and coolant removed, I replaced the spark plugs, thermostat, thermostat housing, coolant overflow reservoir, valve cover gaskets, and lower manifold bolts (the last two came in the kit with the manifold gaskets). I also had some other parts break during the job, which I then needed to replace: a spark plug wire, the EGR tube, a vacuum line, and the radiator drain plug.
