Part 2 of ‘How to replace the ABS pump on a Peugeot 206 1.1 litre’

PLEASE NOTE: Disclaimer: This video is for entertainment only. Since working on your vehicle’s braking system is a serious and safety-critical process, only attempt any repairs if you are one hundred percent sure of your abilities. If in any doubt, seek professional help.

Another video showing ‘real world’ car repair and maintenance – so no glossy studios or workshop, just myself working on a car on a driveway outside in the cold because chances are that’s where you viewers and subscribers will be working on your own cars. That’s not to say I wouldn’t say no to a nice warm workshop or filming studio.

When refitting the brake pipes to the ABS unit, lightly lube the threads of the pipe unions with a smear of red rubber grease since this product is safe to use on components of a braking system. DON’T use copper based grease as this contains particles of metallic copper which could cause issues within the ABS pump’s moving parts due to the fine tolerances of the valves etc. If some red rubber grease did get inside, it would dissolve in the brake fluid without harm – having said that, the system will be pressure bled anyway to remove all traces of trapped air and old fluid within the pump (if secondhand unit is being fitted)
Always start screwing in the pipe union threads by hand so you can feel if the threads are engaging smoothly or not. Only when the union nut is winding in nicely can you start using brake pipe spanner or close fitting open mouth spanner. On this car, the union nuts are steel but a bit soft so go easy and don’t over tighten because a steel part that mounts to an aluminium block will have a fine thread and if you over tighten, chances are the thread in the ABS block will strip – so when the union is almost fully home, just nip it up a few degrees.

ABS braking system on the Peugeot 206 MUST be pressure bled before battery is reconnected and BEFORE car is driven.
