Mike, A great big THANK YOU for this video. I have never been a fix-it guy. When the driver’s side window in my wife’s car broke, I couldn’t leave her like that with summer approaching. But, on two teacher’s salaries, our money is tight. So, I researched and found your video. After watching it, I bought a new regulator and motor. With the help of your video, I was able to completely fix it. I had to come in and watch it 3 times when I’d get stuck but your video got me through. Again, thanks! 🙂

Closer look, a bit of the rubber around the track had rolled inwards, and was causing the problem. Once it was pulled out, all seemed fine, it probably got rolled it while positioning the window to bolt to the regulator.

1aauto says:

You should be able to install it and it should roll back up like it normally would if you follow this video. You may want to check the regulator to see if there’s something blocking the window from rolling up all of the way.

I have a 2001 Intrigue, and followed this video to replace the motor and regulator, I got the window in place and attached with the two bolts to the regulator, however the window does not roll up all the way and leaves a slight gap at the top. At one point the window had been off the tracks, but I positioned it back, and I am not sure if there was another track or something potentially blocking it? I will peek around more with a flashlight, but thought a quick answer might be here.

You can tape the window into the up position with painters tape so that it doesn’t slide down on you.

What holds the glass up when you raise it? It seems like it could fall and break/ injure you at any moment trying to fight gravity like that.

1aauto says:

normally what happens is the plastic wheels or spool break so replacing piece of the window regulator can become very tedious.

Brant Parkinson says:

Is there any way to just replace the cable or is it more of a hassle than it is worth? Should I just replace the entire regulator?

1aauto says:

You can reach inside of the door and push it up with your hand. If you need to keep it closed for a few days, you can prop something up under it inside of the door to help hold the glass in place. Hope this helps you out.

I recently removed a regulator and motor now the glass is in the bottom of the door, will it be difficult to get the window pack in position?

It may be either the switch or the window motor. I would hold the switch and test the wire to the window motor to see if there’s power to the window motor (you could ues a test light for this). If there is then the window motor is more than likely bad. We carry them on our website I’ll include a link to them for you. Hope this helps

I have a 2000 olds intrigue, the driver side window won’t go down, all the other switches work on my door for the other windows, I am just wondering if it might be the motor or just the one switch for my window that isn’t working. And i don’t hear any noise when i try to roll down my window.
