How to diagnosis your 90-92 Oldsmobile Toronado Trofeo

Welcome to Redline,

My name is Justin, I specialize in the repair of 4th generation Oldsmobile Toronado/Trofeo. Back in 1966, Oldsmobile came out with the Toronado, the first front wheel drive car to feature the 425 V8. Fast forward 30 years and the 4th gen Toronado was released. A smaller, euro styled luxury couple that would steal my heart. Powered by a Buick 3.8L v6 and later on the 3800 series 1 V6, argued the best engine to be produced by GM for its power at the time and long life reliability. So come with me and I’ll show you the quirks, problems, and the joy of owning one of these jems.

So, I have a 1990 non-vic car. Same model, same trim level.(it was ordered oddly). I have a few issues that I think you can help me out with.

1. Reverse slam. Regardless of how I put it into reverse, it slams into gear. I have replaced the bottom passenger side mount, top mount, and transmission mount. Still no luck. Im pretty sure its not internal, but im not quite sure what it could be.

2. The number 2 body fuse pops. I cant get the fuse to stay on for even a second. It pops immediately after contact. Ive taken apart the rear cig lighters, and the lights all around the car. Still no luck there. The dash and hvac controls are fine, but there are no interior lights. I have no idea what I could be looking at.

3. The hvac wont blpw through the front 4 vents. Its stuck on the def/lower setting, no matter what selection I put into the hvac unit.

Maybe you can help me out a bit here. Ive never messed around with anything this old, as im usually an n-body guy. But I couldnt pass this car up. It runs and drives great!

That was interesting! I read about this, but I never saw it in action. That is so wonderful! That really makes it easier for you. You were trying to say OBD I Scanner tool. I read you could do it with my Toronado too. You press off and warm at the same time and it will do exactly as your Trofeo did. Good video Justin! Get that sensor changed.
