Hey “BodyMan ” it’s called Button weld and I been doing it since the 80s to weld floor sections you name it .. they look great require little to No grinding because once the hole is filled your done the REALLY important thing to remember is the metal prep prior to welding like removing the E coating and NOT FORGETTING to use weld thru or the SEM copperweld your body work will last forever because rust will not be an issue.
So you lap welded the patch in? Why didn’t you butt weld it?
if you dont have a welder then there is no point of drilling the holes, the Technic is called plug welding. a spot welder is a hand held machine that pinches the two panels together and fuses them via heat basically welding the two panels together! If you have a regular mig welder you could drill out the holes on the outer panel that touches the inner panel and just weld the holes up!
how do you drill a hole and then weld if you dont have a welder? that makes no sense
thats what body men do if they dont have a spot welder! still a good Technic
Interesting technique.
Please repair my car it HAS NO RUST! And the car has no bondo and It just has a beat up door driverside and just another bump in front of the fender passengers side other than that the car is in awesome condition but unfortunatley Idont know how to weld nor how to paint a car! I seriously need help restoring this car its worht it 1970 cutlass supreme with a 350 engine in it.!
he made a lot of extra work for himself that’s one way of doing it
da!!! lol
For those of you like me who do not have a spot welder i found that if you drill a hole through one of the panels and weld through that hole it makes a fairly good spot weld it just takes a little more work but saves you the cost of a spot welder
on the episode that you demonstrated on how to make a factory looking weld one of the tools you used wehen reversed made a little rebate did you use this tool when you did guard ?
