The usual bizarre GM ad script and insane situation-why I love these old
ads. Pure, unbridled materialism.

We had a ’69 Vista Cruiser! Silvery blue. Thanks for posting this! It was
annoying on “That 70s Show” that they always emphasized the “cruiser” part
to suggest that the car was huge. It really wasn’t that big. Later, we had
a ’74 Custom Cruiser which really was huge.

@vistacruiser67 My Grandparents had a 1977 Cutlass Supreme that turned out
to have the Chevrolet 350 in it. If I recall, GM sent them either 500.00 or
1000.00 credit on their next GM car. 76 and 77 I think the Cutlass was the
best selling car in America. The motor locked up on their Cutlass with
86,000 miles on it. I had it moved to the barn, they have a farm, both are
gone but the farm is still in our family. I just have not gotten around to
getting someone to restore it. Body is in great shape

this fact is incredible !! Yuengling is a amber beer that gives you a
different buzz !! I know a girl who was house sitting her dads house in
Deer Lake Pa. and she went into her dads garage and found a case of
Yuengling. i asked do you know where that beer is made? ? she said no ? i
said right up the street in Pottsville Pa !!!!! LOL

vistacruiser67 says:

They all were tinted but some were smoked tinted and others were mirror
tinted.

I also had a 69 Vista Cruiser around 1999. It was originally light green
with light green interior and the previous owner painted it white. I also
had a much harder to find 69 Cutlass Cruiser wagon without the roof glass
and on the shorter 4 door wheelbase. Unfortunately it was wrecked and
totalled out.

vistacruiser67 says:

Olds didnt have a full size wagon like the Country Squire from 65-70. Vista
Cruiser is based on the Cutlass line which would compete against Torino or
Fairlane wagons if your a Ford enthusiast. GM introduced the clamshell
tailgate on fullsize wagons from 71-76: Olds Custom Cruiser, Chevy
Kingswood Estate, Pontiac Grand Safari, and whatever Buick had. Olds were
higher priced than Ford. Chevy would be a better comparison since both Ford
and Chevy are budget priced high volume models.

Mike Miller says:

Vista Cruiser is more of a CAR and a TRUCK than the ridgeline haha.

OldsVistaCruiser says:

I forgot to mention that the Ridgeline also has the lockable “secret
compartment” under the cargo floor that the Vista Cruiser was known for.

CHris Henniker says:

I’d give my right arm for one of these station wagons.

Chevy and olds engines are the same. One is not easier to work on then the
other period. There are only two GM motor divisions that would qualify for
that.Buick and Cadillac.Why.Their ignition systems set in the front of the
engine like a Ford.By the way,Cadillacs founders are the ones that started
Lincoln motor division to Ford motor company.Cadillac liked the Ford setup
so well on its engines that one of the original founders of Cadillac
started incorporating the Ford design on its cars.Fordwins

itisian says:

Dude, I’d kill to have a nice, Brown wood Vista Cruiser!! I Love themm!

carsbyjeff says:

I was selling new Oldsmobile’s then. When we salesmen figured out these
were Chevy engines we were like, “Oh boy,the shit is going to hit the fan
now!”

OldsVistaCruiser says:

@munfmunf4boisdinner – If you count the crank-operated vent windows, there
are actually 13 windows! Yes, I remember a hailstorm in my ’69 Vista. I had
to put a sheet of plywood over the skylights. What’s worse is that many of
these cars developed leaks around the skylights.
