1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supercharged 6.2 LSA Engine Install Swap Video Part 1 V8TV

This very nice 1968 Oldsmobile 442 is wearing a crisp restoration and features some modified parts intended to give this car better handling and drivability. It’s not a numbers-matching W30 car, although it looks like one. It’s got 17” American Racing wheels, Wilwood brakes with a Hydratech hydraulic brake assist unit, Hotchkis control arms and sway bars, and a few other goodies. It’s powered by a big block Olds engine, but the owner wanted increased reliability, as he drives this car on cross country trips. His solution is a GM LSA supercharged 6.2 liter V8 “Connect & Cruise Kit” which also provides an overdrive transmission. It’s not an Oldsmobile engine, but the owner has several other numbers matching 442 W30 cars, and this one is not a “numbers matching car”, and he likes the technology and abilities of the LSA engine and the 4L85E transmission.

This is part 1 of a 6 video series in which we upgrade a 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass with a modern supercharged GM LSA 6.2 liter Connect & Cruise engine and transmission. Follow along as we cover the whole process in this series.

I just don't agree with the changes described. I'm old school.

roknroy1 says:

why do people keep saying carburetors are so hard to use? they were on cars for over 80 years!

Darin McDonnell says:

why???? how to butcher a nice car. put a fuel injected olds small block. just a cookie cutter v8. dime a dozen Chevy v8.

Noah Garay says:

Should have a 400 w30 style

kdknitro says:

Cool story, looking forward to see what comes of this car.

Brian TX says:

230 to the wheels is still better than my old fox body was brand new. Albeit in a real muscle car instead of a little pony car.

Jim Rowlings says:

engine must be wore out

Odahi The Dubious says:

"Barely cracked the 200 mark." Hmm, odd. My '68 Cutlass with the 10.5:1 compression 350 was pushing about 330. Something was wrong with this poor "442." If only it was possible to build one with an updated version of the W43 engine they were working on in the early 70's. I would love to have my old '68 again, and a pile of cash to do something like this. I'm really looking forward to seeing the rest of the series, these old Oldsmobiles have a special place in my heart.

Swilling says:

Excellent, its only one set of Steel wheels and dog dish caps away from looking like the perfect car! Looking forward to following along.
