Keeping up with your vehicle’s maintenance intervals is crucial to maintain optimal performance. And one of the most common wear parts that need to be changed are your engines spark plugs. Overtime spark plugs wear, they get dirty, electrodes wear, and after 100,000 miles they need to be changed to ensure your engine burns the air/fuel mixture efficiently. Well in this video Greg has a 2011 Nissan Frontier in the shop that is due for new spark plugs. He walks you through the step by step process of how to change spark plugs on any Nissan Frontier, Pathfinder or Xterra from 2005-2016 with the 4.0L V6 engine. So, if you own any of these vehicles, or just curious what steps cross over to your own car tune in and follow along.

Spark Plug Purpose. The spark plug in any engine plays a very important role in engine performance and efficiency. The ignition system on your engine is designed to initiate a spark on certain cylinders when the piston reaches is combustion stroke. When this happens, the ignition system fires a spark to that specific spark plug causing the air/fuel mixture to burn creating power! If your spark plugs are old and worn, this can create an inefficient burn and reducing engine performance.

The Right Parts. If your performing this job on your own vehicle with the Nissan 4.0L V6 engine, you need to ensure you have the right parts. When shopping you will find a slew of different spark plugs that will in fact fit your vehicle, but will they perform as desired? We always recommend sticking with the OE spark plug to ensure proper engine operation. In the case of this Nissan, other parts will also be necessary to perform this job which includes the upper intake manifold gaskets. Always ensure that you have all the correct parts before you begin any disassembly.

You Can Do It Yourself. Changing spark plugs on most vehicles is a pretty straight forward job. You only need a basic set of hand tools to get it done and in the process, you can learn new skills on how to work on your car as well as learn things about your vehicle. This is the perfect way to start educating yourself about your vehicle and have fun doing it!
