Mitsubishi Delica L400 2003 Upper Ball Joint Spacer Install

Mitsubishi Delica L400 2003 Upper Ball Joint Spacer Install

Here are several short clips showing the backyard install of the two upper ball joint spacers generally done to give a bit more lift and correct the geometry of the ball joint. Some points: The tapered face faces the ball joint, bottle jack is helpful to separate control arms and sway bar alignment bolt location, if one of the bolts don’t locate easily and catch the thread, drill out 10mm hole to 10.5, keep wheels straight before removal, must use an axle stand and use rear wheel chocks for safety

Worst video ever!! This is not a toyota (they have thd torsion bar atatched to the upper control arm)
All you need to do is lift borh front wheels ( instead of fittle with the anti roll bar)
The upper control arm you can move by hand when loosen the bolts, just use a lift undet the lover ball joint to adjust pressure/angle to upper control arm

Interesting, I have just been in contact with Julian at delicagarage/au regarding ball joints and spacers. S1 l400 with 40mm suspension lift. HD torsion bars on 31 10.5 r15s. My mechanic suggest my lower ball joint and tie rod is on the way out so starting looking into it. delicaclubforums suggest 40mm lift is boderline to requiring spacers whereas 50mm is recommended. I have not noticed any unusual tyre wear in 5000km since lifting, but i rotate every 5000. Whether the lift is causing my tie rod and ball joint issue is possible but I have only done 10000km since purchasing used. Anyway Julian at Delica garage has told me they are currently in testing of castor correction extended ball joints without spacers. So I might hold off until they become available retail as I would personally prefer to avoid spacers if possible due to possible legality issues in QLD and perhaps other states.

Great vid! One thing tho…. aren't they supposed to compensate and correct the camber? From your video seems make it worst. Cheers

Since uploading this it was helpfully pointed out to me that the sway bar fastenings are different to normal bolts and have an inner hex head socket so you can lever an allen key against the spanner or socket on the nut. Should have looked closer
