In this video, I show you how to repair a mini split air conditioner not cooling and my mini split troubleshooting process. I also provide valuable mini split air conditioner review information. My MrCool DIY Mini Split Air Conditioner model DIY-18-HP-230A is under warranty and MRCOOL sent me a replacement mini split inside unit. The Mini Split troubleshooting was simple and the mini split repair was easy.

I dont get why you would go through the trouble of replacing the evap head when their was clearly no issue with it, makes no sense to have them give you a brand new one

Carlos Almeida says:

What is that white thing dangling from the wires at the bottom? I can’t get mine to start I think it might be missing a remote control sensor?

Burning2nd says:

damn man, your sloppy af, so whats the consensus ? you had a leak, Did you locate it and fix it? Ive seen techs repair coils on roof top units… how does the mr cool brand hold up? Im fishining the 24k install tomorrow

Anthony Gasparini says:

Great video but….At 14.30 on your video while you were up on the ladder I noticed you had the ladder against the building backwards!!!! Wow be careful my friend.

Old man Goat says:

I have aPioneer mid split my temp today is 34 degrees yet it will heat for a while then go to
df and room will cool down which I do not understand

Sartaz Ahmad says:

Thankyou sir

Poncho758 says:

Thank you so much. Great job and I appreciate your honesty.

Avery Alexander says:

I have a question. Did Mr. Cool pay for the tech to come out and diagnose the system, or were you stuck paying to diagnose the unit? Thanks

Ram M457 says:

I have the same set up I want to do for my new mrcool diy . The place I want to mounting unit The inside unit it’s going to be above a door opening then behind it I have to go through closet wall wall then the through my closet wall and then to the outside. 3 walls to get to the outside. My issue is how much space do I need to hang the inside unit over the door way ? Right now I measure 15 in is that enough to left and hook the unit to the mounting bracket? Also the drain line I don’t want to run it through all those walls I was thinking of running it over the doorway behind it and then straight down to my floor under the house and out what do you think ? I noticed that you left the drain line out and then you fished it through And then it’s almost like if I was gonna do the same thing but I’m thinking of just running it behind the doorway straight down to the ground in and out of my house

Damnit Bobby says:

0:29 If that's a "follow me" remote thermostat under the unit, it's mounted in the wrong place.

Edward Sferrazza says:

Hey guys. I’ve had nothing but problems using those insulated line sets with the white foam. I’ve replaced them on a few units. If you inspect them closely, you’ll notice how porous they are. I added the due capsules for POE oil and it permeated through the pipe and the insulation. Try not to use these line sets. You’ll save time and money. Run the American made copper tubing. Good luck.

toyota38 says:

You had a leak because of not pulling a vacuum on the line set and evaporator. In Louisiana, once you pull the plug on the line set before you make the connection at the condenser valves, humid air enters the system. The non condensables “humidity/moisture” when mixed with the refrigerant and oil in the system create acids that eat through components causing leaks. After connecting the line set, the system should be evacuated with a vacuum pump, checked for leaks, then the refrigerant valves opened to release the refrigerant into the vacuumed dry sealed system!

Cat1234 says:

I have a similar space with spray foam insulation in the walls. Im have two questions. What size as far as tons is you unit and square footage. Also, i just discovered I have a freon leak on my inside unit. You can see the freon shooting out of one of the copper tubes in the coil. I wondered what the warranty is on these units

Joe Cos says:

Hi, I just installed a 24k unit and seem to have the same problem as you. Did you're unit start out cooling the air then warm to room temp before reaching the set temperature? Since I live over 3 hours drive each way for a tech to visit and diagnose my problem Mr Cool is sending a recharge kit. I hope this helps but once a leak starts its a real pain to find and fix. Any help would be appreciated.

Closet flange.
Check the stepping exv..and many techs never test the invertor/compressor can for leaks in welds..one fissure or gas hole will do it..improper flares can also seep.

LIVELY PROJECTS says:

ha toilet flange for the wall plate ! i like it

Great video – thanks! I installed three Pioneer Mini-Splits two years ago (identical to MRCOOL), and they have been the best things I've done for our house. One was the 12000, and two were 24000 BTU's. They cool very well, it's easy to clean their filters, and the savings in electricity is phenomenal!
I had a question, but I don't know if you've needed to delve into any maintenance yet.
I want to clean the fan blades, which are the only things that have become "gunked" up over two years (the coil fins still look great).
But – do you know the "secret" to removing the full front covers? (Not just the main flip-up access door – I need to take off the whole plastic cover – front, top, and sides.)
I can't find the placement for the screws inside the vent area that most mini-splits have.
Do you know where the screws to remove the cover are?
Please enjoy your efficient cooling / heating system!
Thanks again, Randall

I'm having the exact same problem with my mini but my warranty is long passed. I wish you found out what was essentially the problem. To give me some kind of ideas to what I need to do in order to fix this prob.

John Granoski says:

After researching Minisplits for years (yes years), my impression of Mr Cool was it was priced higher, but supplied local as you have suggested (Home Depot). It also should be more of a DIY install with the flexible lineset. Yet that same lineset seems to be in question with your first unit. That would really PMO. I know I can save $$ on other units purchased on Fleabay, BUT, I am unlikely to get ANY warranty action, and I will need to purchase appropriate tools for running the lineset. Including evacuation, gauges, flare tools etc. I figure about $400 worth of tools to use once (or how many times based on your usage). As an experienced DIYer, I am suprised how many DIYers start with one, but end up installing several units. I wanted to say thanks for your time and effort to install and document, but MR COOLS failure will ultimately suggest I should take the plunge with another brand. THere BEST feature (flexible self install lineset) has proven faulty. Although they did cover under warranty, it still cost you $200 and 8-10 (?) hours of your time. MR COOL, you need to think twice about this. Please followup with Jeremy and ALSO offer to reimburse him his expenses….so he can give you a thumbs up, and we as viewers realize it MIGHT be worth spending the extra $$ for you product. John in Nebraska. Hot humid summers…and I look to install 4-8 units this summer if all goes well, But probably NOT Mr. Cool. PMO = Pis> Me Off above. [Heat and Humidity in LA. Visited Franklin LA in 87. YIKES!]

John Granoski says:

Sorry, gotta ask. The Bell??? A very technical question! Two thumbs up BTW. 6.7 up.

hey mr. cool my aircon have problem split aircon his authomatic off and ders a logo blinking near in timer

Hi Jeremy cool channel. It's Sunday Mother's Day in O.C. NY So all vendors and businesses are pretty much closed. Can't really get a straight answer from surfing the net. Got a question. Do you know if MrCool sells longer line sets or a vendor that supplies longer ones that are compatible with MrCool units ?

emptech says:

How many microns did you evacuate the lineset and evaporator down to? Pardon me if somebody else has already asked the question, I didn't check the other responses. When you were diagnosing the system with a leak, did you try pressurizing with nitrogen ?

Bob Miller says:

I recently installed a 24k Mr. Cool unit in my Waikiki rental property. I thought it would be a reasonably priced upgrade. After the install and a visit by an AC technician, it was determined that the control board sent with the unit needed to be replaced. AC is not usually considered an emergency repair, but it is when you have paying guests staying in your Waikiki apartment. Considering the unit did not work right out of the box, I'm wondering if it will give me reliable service in the future? I made the purchase through Home Depot and I could return it as is. Mr. Cool is sending a replacement control board, but I just don't know if it is worth the stress and hassle to deal with what might happen next. bobmillerhawaii@gmail.com

Well that was not what I wanted to hear about mr cool: a leak after one year. I would have wanted a complete replacement (both indoor & outdoor units). Did they say you had to pay for an HVAC tech to get the replacement indoor unit? How did he know it wasn't the outdoor unit leaking? And how is it even possible he couldn't find the leak?
