How To | 96 Mitsubishi Eclipse Short Shifter Install | Step by Step

Ladies and gentlemen, there are bikers out there that give up on cars once they start riding motorcycles. Not us! we still love our cars just as much as we love our bikes!

In this video I am installing a Megan Racing Short Shifter for 95-99 Eclipse.

All in all this short shifter has made an absolute DAY AND NIGHT difference when it comes to driving. The shifts feel absolutely amazing, feeling short, quick, and notch/stiff. Perfect for when you want to rip through the gears. It even feels nice when you’re just casually driving.

NOTE: There are 2 kinds of these shifters. The Megan Racing and an Ebay knock off. The Ebay one is significantly cheaper: $30 vs. $60, but you get what you pay for. You will have to do a little modifying for the bay one to fit properly. The Megan racing shifter comes with a knob, the shifter is made of quality metal, and everything fits as it should without modifying anything.

I actually came to see if anyone else had issues charging their phone while shifting my shifter hits the charger and messed up the cigarette charger outlet

The shifter is installed backwards you can technically put it on either way but it will be angled awkwardly forward if you do it the direction shown in the video either way good video man!!

Looks like its be hard to get a cd into the head unit with this shifter. Also it doesnt fix my biggest gripe about the stock shifter, that annoying forward angle.

How do you like the Megan racing setup any problems so far?

Aj Nicolas says:

Nice install video. Definitely will help me install mines…just curious though, does it matter which way the actual shifter is installed? I see a lot of images where its installed the other way…

Hector Lopez says:

Does the stock knob fit on it?

Asa Spades says:

The top bolt on mine that bolts onto the purple collar does not fit at all, its way too long

Good video my man.! Have one myself in my GS and about to install one in my GST. Food for thought for you (and anyone else watching/reading this.) now is the time to replace your shifter bushings while you have it taken apart this far. There are a total of 6 of the nylon inserts (the weird spacer you didn't put back.) and the little cup bushing at the bottom of the shifter. Replacing all of these will make your setup 1000% more solid and no play in it. Also, I would suggest adding a little spacer between the bottom of the purple mount and the OEM shifter mount that you attached it too. That "small" amount of wobble will eventually make grooves in the purple piece and cause play in your shifter, as well as give you a false sense of being in gear when shifting. (I know all of this information from first hand installing my Megan racing shifter and after a year of use, had to go in and replace all of these items to fix the play in the shifter again.) so save yourself the hassle now.!
