Mercury 200 Lower Unit Installation | Mercury 200 Gearcase Installation | Boats.net

See how to install the lower unit on your Mercury 200 XL Verado in this video from Boats.net. We’ve done a lot of work on the lower unit on this outboard:

We removed the lower unit: https://youtu.be/DzbkYE5SlAU
Replaced the water pump: https://youtu.be/uyAfzjhYhLg
Replaced the input seal: https://youtu.be/QmeJYd_wFfI
Replaced the shift shaft seal: https://youtu.be/rt76oGqx7Nk
Replaced the output shaft seal: https://youtu.be/ggdkgMg2pyE
Verified our replacement seals with a gearcase leak test: https://youtu.be/tpEMNqF6bhs

In this video, John will show you how to reattach the lower unit on this Mercury outboard. This unit has an extension, so getting the extension positioned will be the first step. Then, we’ll grease the drive shaft and then get the gearcase installed on our Mercury. Along the way, we’ll show you how to replace an anode after we found one that looks shot.

See this diagram for a better look at the lower unit mounting bolts: https://www.boats.net/catalog/mercury/outboard-by-hp/200hp/1b517159-up-usa-cat-90-898164008-verado/driveshaft-housing?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=description_btf_BDN

In the video we’re working with a 2009 Mercury 200 XL Verado 4-cylinder outboard motor, but you may have similar steps for your Mercury outboard. If you’re not sure whether these steps apply to your motor, leave a comment and we’ll get back to you.

Hey can you guys do video on how to adjust shift linkage on the Mercury 250 mine is 2006 model. Its not fully going into gear making terrible clunking . I figure I should start there for diagnosing. Thanks

William Lillie says:

On the bearing carrier shims. How would you keep your shims in place while putting in the bearing carrier? Without them falling out of place?

Wonderful video, thank you for sharing. Does mercury sell a service manual where I can get accurate torque specifications for my application? The seloc manuals I feel are too broad.
