Repairing an ignition switch on a Mercury remote shifter that was from the 1960’s through the 1980’s. Mercontol Rewire the ignition switch. This is if you can’t find a new ignition switch. Which they are getting harder to find.
Typically the connections with solder that needs a very high heat. Most of solder guns of today do not heat to a temperature for this old solder. What you can do is what I have done here is soldered to the wire that was left. If you heat the switch with prolonged heat it destroys the it.
So, if I cannot find a new old stock switch I repair the old one this way. Either way you are going to need a solder gun that gets hot.
