Hello. I have a question: I have a hunter thermostat and the terminals that

of the wall a white one and white with red stripe . I’ve been trying and
trying to connect it but it won’t work . What I did is connect a jumper
from R/C to R/H and put the cables in the same and it heater started
working nth when I tried to control the temperature won’t work it just keep
going !!
Help please !

Very, Very helpful! Thanks…

Robert Racki says:

It depends where you live and your codes, but most areas are putting the
receptacles in like that. The reason is if the plug comes out enough to
expose the wires and something falls on it there is a risk of connecting
the circuit (fires, shocks, and so on). With the plug upside down the
ground is the only thing exposed. I personally think it is ugly upside
down.

Be careful. Do you have electric heat ?

Air Handler says:

My downstairs will be 80 and upstairs is like 65. I Live in Minot ND. It
gets around -60 in the dead of winter. But i have a problem with heat
upstairs, I can never seem to get upstairs warm . my attic is well
insulated.

PutSome5tankOnIt says:

A large temperature swing may not be the old thermostat’s fault. If it’s
mounted on an exterior wall, the stat will sense that temperature…
digital or not. All thermostats are designed to sense temperature more
slowly than a digital thermometer. This keeps the system from cycling too
frequently.

askmediy says:

SO very true, I guess maybe I forgot to mention that part. Thanks buddy.

Jose Andrade says:

Hi Dominick, I would like to replace my old thermostat as well, but I only
saw 2 black wires in the back. Does this matter? Or do I have to have a
black one and a red one? Thanks

Jose Andrade says:

This is a gas wall heater… I bought the same thermostat and intalled it
and it is working like a charm…. NICE UPGRADE for 20 bucks!! Thanks

PutSome5tankOnIt says:

@iamaGod357 Your problem might be duct-related. If the air flow is low, the
upstairs may not warm up as quickly as the downstairs. The thermostat only
senses temp where it’s located. The upstairs may also lose heat faster
through older windows and/or exterior walls with northern exposure. It may
help to dampen air flow to the downstairs or increase ducting to the
upstairs. If you choose to only restrict airflow to the downstairs, there’s
chance the furnace will overheat.

Great Job Dom !!! Always de-energize Furnace at the Furnace Switch , and if
Furnace is Not Switched Breaker must be de-energized , if Not the
Transformer in the Furnace will get Smoked with the Quickness !!! Most
Furnaces Now have a Fusible Link in them , that will interrupt a Grounded
Wire and Insure you don’t Smoke the Transformer !!! Red = Hot White = Heat
Yellow = A.C. Green = Fan Blue = Common

Air Handler says:

how can i fix this?

Thank you Dominick. My fiance and I have a house with old wiring. We were
quite confused with Honeywell’s installation instructions. We were about to
give up when we logged on to YouTube and found your video using the keyword
“Replace old thermostat with digital”. We were able to install both
thermostats in about an hour-and-a-half, with neither one of us having any
electrical experience. And guess what? She installed the first thermostat
by herself! Thanks a million!!

great video, very well done

NN8980 says:

I have the same style thermostat that I’m trying to replace with a digital,
but both of my wires in the back are white. How to I determine which wire
should actually be the red wire?

Steve Fulton says:

Way to go Dominick.

askmediy says:

@EvaBongoria That’s the way it was and still is when I bought the building.
Some commercial codes at some time use to be that way to my understanding.
I think it’s just dumb.

sirensandhvaczzzszsz says:

is that thermostat heating only or is there arcindishining

EvaBongoria says:

Hey dominick. Was wondering – is there any reasoning behind putting in a
receptacle upside down?

askmediy says:

First off make sure you are replacing low voltage type. And not one for a
electric heat. Be careful and check the voltage first.

askmediy says:

It doesn’t matter much but the heater I had in this video was oil. I just
bought one that you can program via a Iphone.. I think I’ll make a video on
it.

mpenny226 says:

thanks I need one of those. I did not know that it was that easy to
install.
