The cavitation plate on the Torque Master lower unit of my Mercury 225 (2015 model) was missing a chunk. I’ll show you how it was repaired using tig welding.
On the TorqueMaster lower unit, which is known for its high-performance, heavy-duty design, the cavitation plate serves several key functions:
*Reduces Propeller Ventilation: By creating a physical barrier above the propeller, the cavitation plate helps prevent air from being sucked into the blades, keeping the propeller fully submerged in water for optimal thrust.
*Improves Hole Shot and Speed: With less ventilation, the engine can push the boat forward more effectively, leading to faster acceleration and improved top-end speed.
*Stabilizes the Boat: The cavitation plate adds to the hydrodynamic stability of your Mercury 225, especially during sharp turns or rough water conditions.
Protects the Lower Unit: It can deflect debris or reduce the impact of surface contact, offering some protection to the TorqueMaster gearcase.
