NASCAR owners pocket all the money. The drivers and the crews really on sponsorship.

HermannTheGreat says:

Nearly all cars non toyota this old are going to cost hundreds of dollars of work every year d/t worn out seals, wiring, suspension, not to mention known issues with head gaskets and transmissions across the board, oh and don't forget getting 25 miles/gallon or less.

fernando Canizalez says:

I dont care that the mercury is a grampa car, they ride so smoth and comfortable its like sleeping on a King bed!!!!!!!

Midnight Gambler says:

I'm on my 9th Panther Platform (CV, GM, TC) and I find, since 1988 they are the most reliable cars I've ever owned. My best was a 2004 CVP71 creampuff I got from WA state, it was a constable's car, no stripes, no cage, no black and white. Awesome car. My current is a 2006 Grand Marquis, with hwy gears. Not fast, not quick, but economical and dependable. Great cars.
Side note, my 88 Town Car went 510K miles before a ring landing finally burned away. 1 tranny change in that many miles, amazing…

Kevin John says:

4.6 is garbage. Oil pump volume too low – causes overhead cam wear. Jasper addressed that by installing higher volume flow pumps on their rebuilt 4.6 motors

Pete Lyczek says:

Just picked an '06 Marquis with 166k miles from a cur guy this past March. Last American made car made with a frame under it and rear wheel drive. No more Kias for me!

glamdring0007 says:

NASCAR is dying because they've over regulated the race into monotony so it's boring as hell now…every driver has essentially an identical car and they always race on boring ovals. Lose 90% of the rules, allow only cars available to the public…no more skinned specialty frames, and race on tracks that have some variation…but most of all lose the rules and get some drama back into it.

DashCamAndy says:

*reads title* Because they're a nice, solid, rear-wheel-drive tank that is one of Ford's most reliable models and most parts are ridiculously cheap?

So many taxi companies have Crown Vics and Grand Marquis in their fleets, and police departments use the Crown Vic which shares a lot of parts. They're literally, and figuratively, nearly-bulletproof! Trunk space, cabin space, legroom for tall backseat passengers, comfy seats, and in the unfortunate event of a minor collision, there is a lot more sheet metal and physical space between passengers and the Outside World.

(And then, the compatibility with Police Interceptor parts for extra fun…)
I generally dislike Fords, but a 3rd-Gen Mercury Marauder is definitely on my Favorites list – which already has some of the Police Interceptor parts in it. One dang-good car that had a really good run, and I was sad when I heard Ford was shutting down the Panther platform because it had been such a phenomenal success. These cars can easily go 300k-400k with routine maintenance.

trobo78 says:

Everyone talks about the Grand Marquis and Crown Vic being one of the safest cars on the road, but I'm not too sure about that. I did some research and found out they have the same track record as the Pinto. When they get rear-ended, they tend to burst into flames.

astrodad65 says:

Just got my "SCOTTY" Tee shirt. Thanks, Scotty!

Gerry Hamm says:

The Ford Panther platform,Crown Vic,Marquis and Towncar are great cars. Reliable and long lasting. NASCAR killed itself with stupid rule changes.
