DIY Power trim/tilt for old Mercury outboard motor

DIY Power trim/tilt for old Mercury outboard motor

Today we are using a Linear actuator to fabricate a power trim/lift for my 1978 Mercury outboard. Thanks for watching!

Interested to see wiring/ switch

Pacific Theory says:

This is great! Thanks for the video. You still put the locking pin in the motor after you tilt it down, correct?

GlitchEmpire says:

Does this mess with the turning ability?

C L says:

I’d like to see it work in the water ?

phill downes says:

now you have to see if it can push against 50hp when its running !!! i doubt that very much..

Chase Hugo says:

Idea is great, do you think it would lift higher if you swapped the actuator and the bar? So the actuator would be pushing up instead of down.

David LeBlanc says:

Does that work with the boat under power? I have the same motor missing the expensive trim and tilt. I am definitely following your design. Thanks for sharing!

Joe Norris says:

What is the actuator brand and travel length
Thanks in advance
I definitely want to do this

amit2hotgun says:

Good ingenuity & mechanics but incorrect placement of the actuator, place it at the bottom of the Transom outside in the middle & connect it to the inside edge of the lower unit with a bracket & watch your actuator’s efficiency go up tenfold. It will be a tight fit, you might have to get a shorter actuator or work out a 360 bracket to accommodate the length while the motor is down but that’s what DIY is about. This setup does not work because it is too slow to bring up the motor in critical situations, direct attachment will transfer the torque into movement more efficiently. But you guys are great & very helpful! Keep rocking!

Dan Burrow says:

I like this idea. Do you have any issues with the motor hitting the actuator while turning? I’ve got the same 50 hp Merc!! Solid motor!

Walter Hilliard says:

We’re did you get the lift motor?

Nick Schicker says:

Great idea! But a couple questions, Did you just do that for transportation ? Can it be used with the motor running in shallow water?

Andy Tinline says:

What weight can these lift ? Would possibly do as a jack plate ??

Carlos Rodrigues says:

Sou do Brasil como faço p colocar no meu motor Yamaha de 40 hp

Dennis Young says:

That was real cool to see. I guess you could maybe take your pal fishing for helping you out with that.

mean gene says:

Pretty cool

Larry Buehler says:

Now that is pretty cool, Ole Scott is one fart little smeller. You are lucky to have a friend like that around.

Wallace Lake Homestead says:

Y'all couple fart smellers, I mean smart fellars… lol sweet…

Charlie says:

I have been thinking about using a couple of Linear actuators to build a dump bed for my trailer

Domingos mundo says:

I have found out what's wrong with the shifter. Wait till I'm back there Wednesday
