What a dumb design for a spring compressor. It’s no fuckin’ wonder it
slipped. It has an open C disk on the end! If you pry that disk just a
smidge in the wrong direction, it’s going to slip. Just use standard
clamps. It SLIGHTLY less “convenient” but it’s MUCH safer. Don’t fuck
around with coils. They will fuck you up!

northgarden says:

Mmmm kay

Liamautomechanic says:

good vid

yusuihang says:

The old guy is a pompous ass, and an idiot.

Jumpious says:

u guys r idiots… use a compression tool so that shit doesnt happen. u
JUST said its dangerous to take it out cause THERES A LOT OF COMPRESSION IN
THE SPRING! but u still took it out with nothing holding it, fucking fail,
thumbs down.

Liamautomechanic says:

i was waiting for that, close shave there man.

Eric Mietz says:

If they were so concerned with the spring releasing/decompressing. why
would they not further compress/support the spring with a coil compression
kit? their chances of that coil shooting off would have greatly diminshed
with the help of a spring compressor. the wheel well has plenty of access
for such a tool. just an opinion of mine. In the past when ive dealt with
broken springs ( ford taurus front springs) I take precaution and do what
is neccessary with the help of a simple compression tool so this same thing
doesnt happen. besides no mechanic needs to shit his pants on a simple job
like this by having a highly energized spring thrown in his face.

blackinspired says:

why not to compress that coil more then take it out?? its not that scary.
w126 coils are massive compare to that and no problems to take it out.

James Anderson says:

riggs work wear for the win

Claud Allen says:

Let me get big bertha lol too much

micio de marco says:

The bold guy is very annoying when hes talking . All amateurs make mistakes
like that . But this guy is also stupid for trying to teach the wrong
things

J Proctor says:

Jesus. The old guy just thinks he is a genius and has seen it all and done
it all. He deserved to have that happen to him.

n310ea says:

God I hate Mercedes vehicles, they are so hard to work on. I’m so glad my
’05 Mercury Grand Marquis have struts where it’s easy to replace the front
springs.

bobatporty says:

” this is a fantastic tool but I never used it before and I’m an expert and
don’t read instructions” Famous last words, Lol

Jon Lamont says:

Nice work guys. I’m looking at as many videos for replacing front coil
springs as I can, to get a good idea of how various suspensions work and
the various components. I really like that Mercedes spring compressor, I
would imagine it saves mechanics a couple of minutes off their work
time (good German engineering). Thank you for your video, it was enjoyable
to watch.

nick elias says:

I think the compressor has a flawed design. It relies on friction to stay
together. I bought one that has triangular teeth that fit into triangular
grooves and will not allow the plate to slide

Michael Saull says:

The step they missed was that the opening on the spring plate has to be
facing the right direction on the spring. (i.e in the uphill position) This
way for the spring to escape the center bar has to get longer (not
possible). If the openings are facing in a downhill orientation the bar
would only need to slip a little and the centre bar could be forced out
between the plates because the bar is longer than the distance between the
openings.

Neel McClain says:

GREAT video guys. Thanks so much.

cadman0421 says:

I am old school I suppose… Along with a spring compressor, I also chain
the spring in place for this very reason. I mean ALWAYS. Safety first.
Springs can do a LOT of damage to the vehicle as well as the mechanic.

xxNikkiLyric says:

Never seen a spring compressor like that I was waiting for it to go boom
but damn that’s scary

Death of YouTube says:

it failed cuase they were prying on it and un-seated the compression plate!
equal to smoking a cig while packing dynamite!

dff090 says:

Unsafe if you were working in my shop I would of fired your ass before you
kill someone, that tool needs an extra margin of safety. Please get in
another line of work, you make us all look bad.

raeid82 says:

what a dickhead mechanic

Alan M says:

Back to school boys on torque. Completely wrong advice on torque and
extensions. Also hope you guys are smart enough to torque any rubber
isolated suspension parts on the ground LOADED vice what you did for these
parts.

2730yah says:

I think he almost crapped in his pants… sob

Jay mans says:

IM gonna like ANYWAY

motoristic1 says:

well what ive seen in car shop was taking shock with spring out from car
and then puting 2 bits of flat long iron with U and two bolts at each end
on spring and viceversa

Alan M says:

That tool is a crap design. I’m an engineer and can tell you that will
happen again and again. There is no safety to stop the spring from
slipping out. If you plan on buying a spring compressor by a Clan type
that mounts to the outside and has safety stops. Smart on the vise grips
for safety measure but a bit late. Lucky man..

Seventh Universe says:

fucking Mercedes make things complicated. and they still break more often
than American cars.
Go to the Coffee shop… we can charge what we want for labor, even if we
take a couple hour break in between

gary brown says:

dip shits..

someusername121 says:

3:36 christ what asshole engineer thought “let’s put a torx bolt there”.

Jay mans says:

Experts yea sure.

07CVPI says:

For everyone complaining that the old guy is being a dick, I’d be pretty
pissed too if a bunch of guys from Car and Driver magazine who didn’t know
how to use a ratchet and kept dropping my tools showed up to make me do a
job for them while they filmed me, which leads to customers being turned
away = money lost.

Chris Guadarrama says:

the old guy is to bossy

Prin435 says:

You don´t need to unbolt anything to replace springs on these cars.. The
tool that was used in the video is dangerous and not the original MB tool.
With the right tool from MB you can squeeze the spring much more than they
do in the video. The spring can carefully been taken out by hand if you do
it right… The guys in this video is doing it in a dangerous way and not
the easy way. Normally im using about 45minutes to replace both front
springs on my 124 on the floor in my own garage.

gooseholla1 says:

These videos are good, but is there really a need for two presenters
nowadays? Just detracts from the car repairing.

ECitta says:

that spring compressor is crap. there are much better designs out there.

mronemanband1 says:

where’s the snow and the Raven’?

JAYFROMHARLEM says:

Give these guys a break. Things like this happen when you work on cars. You
can be prepare, check and double check and still have sh*t go south on you.

SiY11 says:

Wow that old guys is an a-hole!

chylos says:

what a scary moment :O it may kill you

mrjost55 says:

Russ talks way too much. I’m so glad we don’t work together.

EndofUSA says:

ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! you are really funny!!!!

fordfool420 says:
