followed your video…filled the filter, even poured diesel back down the
fuel line…started first turn of the key!…something she hasn’t done for
along time…so many thanks for the vid.

Another excellent video: thanks for sharing.
One question: are there different options for the filter? On my 2000 311,
there is no no water sensor on the bottom of the fuel filter (nor anywhere
to connect one). Most dealers I’ve checked out online assume the filter
has the sensor so don’t offer an alternative.

Madlookin says:

great video…a friend replaced my filter (prior to me watching this vid)
van has been running…but now won’t start, blown down the fuel line and
can hear bubbles in the tank, do you think problem could be filter wasnt
purged properly…and what to do?

Danke Eric 🙂

Bevoin1970 says:

@dumbell2312 Air bubbles in the fuel line are BAD !!! in normal working
situations, however if you have just changed the fuel filter, you cant
avoid getting air in the system. By filling the diesel filter up with
diesel, you enable the engine to fire up quicker after filter change, then
if you drive a few miles around the block, this will purge the pipes of any
remaining air in the system, and all will be back to normal. Good for you
for attempting this yourself. Thanks for watching 🙂

Bevoin1970 says:

Its an electric fuel pump on the newer Sprinters, what you have to be
careful of is not sucking in more air once your engine is up and running.
This is where you need to take care in refitting diesel fuel pipes back to
your new filter, so long as the pipe connections are good and tight, air
tight etc, once initial air is bled from the fuel system all should be ok.
Once running take her for a spin, cover a few miles to fully bleed the air
out the fuel lines.

@Bevoin1970 The last time I went to a dealer for service was 15 years ago
for diagnosis and that was when no one else owned diag. equipment. Now in
America you can buy cheap diag. equipment, buy cheap parts online and have
some mechanic install them at a low, pre-set charge. I love to put the
sprinter engine plus 5-speed trans on a 1990-91 mercedes 350 SDL.

@Bevoin1970 Leaving alone..but TBH the red light has never come on..even on
start up..I always thought it was just there as a warning light and it had
never been needed..lol..

Hi Sprinter Lovers from Seattle, USA I have done filter change myself on
the V6, 2007 model. It is a little bit easier since it you don’t have to
deal with the water drain plug at the bottom of the fuel filter. My comment
was: doesn’t he need a special pair of pliers to take off those special
hose clams? and Doesn’t he need to disconnect the battery terminal before
he change the filter? Just some thoughts!

Bevoin hello. I have a Sprinter 313 CDI, and recently I changed the fuel
filter, following the steps, as they are in the video. When I started the
engine was operating normally about 2 minutes. Then suddenly went out, I
tried starting again two or three times without success. I guess that air
entered the circuit, but not sure. Could you give me your opinion
on the matter and any possible solution? Thanks, i hope your answer. PS:
Sorry if the writing is not very clear, is a translation.

dumbell2312 says:

Excellent video! I recently changed the diesel filter on a renault kangoo
1.5dci, it was very straight forward, only thing I would be concerned with
is the air bubbles in the tube but its driving ok, Is it ok to have some
air bubbles in the system? or do you nedd to get rid of all of them?

bassmandudge says:

I set about a full service on my 04 sprinter following all your vids for
fuel air and oil service. Absolutely brilliant. Thanks you for uploading
these. One question though..the water sensor has never come on in my van
since i have owned it (5 years) the electrical connector plug on the loom
doesn’t click into the sensor..it feels like there should be a retaining
catch on the left side but no matter what I do I can’t get it to engage,
should it? of is it just a simple push fit? Thanks

Bevoin1970 says:

@antpilk No I have never heard anything like that, saying that I have
changed this filter many many times and never had a problem in 300,000
miles.

Bevoin1970 says:

Do you still see air bubbles in your fuel line? if yes & you have just
changed the diesel filter, you may have damaged one of the O rings. I have
had same situation. I had to replace the centre plastic pipe that goes into
the filter, it comes with a new O ring. It sounds to me like your sucking
air in from somewhere. Smear a small amount of grease around all the O
rings before assembly. I have never changed the water sensor O ring, bottom
of filter. No air can be allowed to get into fuel lines

Bevoin1970 says:

I’ve never changed a diesel Pump, nevaer needed too on this van

Bevoin1970 says:

My pleasure, if you managed to do what I did in this film, successfully,
and saved yourself a few £ or $ without much hassle, then I did my job
well. Good on you for having a go. 🙂

felter in my diesel truck its chevi silverado 2500 duramax diesel, hope
every things goes well

Bevoin1970 says:

@kkhan42 Thank you – Hope you find them useful to you as a Sprinter owner.

Bevoin1970 says:

@jellysidhu The more air you leave in the system, the more difficulty you
will have starting the engine up after a filter change. By filling the
filter with fuel, your making starting up easier, then continue to run the
engine to help bleed out remaining air in the pipes…

hdidane00 says:
