dear “diesel mercedes”, thanks for placing this video on youtube. I had
been thinking of doing this in my MB Sprinter 2005 but had little trust in
my skills. Your video showed this to be a rather easy process and got me to
attack it on my own. Yay ! And good thing I did. I spent only about 1h 45
minutes without any special tools – I didn;t even have a hex wrench (used
some star wrench that fit); did not have this magical super-long handle
(used a monkey wrench and a pipe; didn’t have a pump-holding chain tool
(used a long rain gutter nail I lodged in the bolts)… Wrenches, bits,
pipes slipped and fell down on the ground about 20-30 times and I scratched
my hands against the radiator ribs… But had to do it ’cause I started and
could not allow myself to give up.
HUGE SUGGESTION: make sure you tighten up as hard as you can the original
bolt holding the clutch/fan before you go into replacing the it. I realized
AFTER replacing mine but it hit me that it “gave” way too easy. I think
this clutch should have some kind of a pin preventing it from getting loose
but it solely depends on how tight the bold is installed.

“diesel mercedes” here is not fixing a Sprinter but the concept is exactly
the same – relax a few clips and bolts on the grill-crossbar to which the
radiator is attached to make room for your hands and the hex bit, and get
going. Oh, one more thing – I had to cut out two pieces of plastic grill to
reach the bolts because I have a MB grill placed instead of the original
Dodge grill and some plastic was in the way. Overall, I believe one needs
more patience than skill to do this repair. If I were doing this again, I
think I could do it in 20 minutes with proper tools or about one hour with
improvised replacements. BTW, I purchased my clutch on amazon for $120 and
the Sprinter runs cool at 80mph in hilly areas with the AC on in temps
hitting 94F !!! I LOVE IT. This was absolutely unthinkable just before
yesterday. Thanks again.
