Hey everyone, it’s Evangeline here at etrailer. And today we have the Thule Arcos hitch-mounted cargo box. While your Mazda CX-9 has a good amount of cargo space in it already, if you want some extra, this might be a good way to do it. We’re gonna talk about some of its features and capacities but we’re gonna focus here on our 2022 Mazda CX-9 and how well it pairs with it. So this is gonna fit into your hitch receiver. If you do not already have one, you can find one here at etrailer.

You can also get four-way wiring to work with this box. If you do not have wiring, this box will still work. It just won’t light up like it is right now. Now the main thing I’d like to point out is that it pairs well with the opening of the hatch on our car. Notice here the clearance between the door and our box.

Plenty of clearance there, so if we need to get or access even more cargo space in here, maybe you have larger bulkier items, we can go in there. Or we could just open up the box and store things here. So it’s nice to have both options easily available. At the front of the box, we have our tail lights. So these are going to also mimic your blinkers, your running lights, your brake lights.

And you have the license plate relocation. So here there’s a light on top and you have your brackets for if you wanted to move your license plate back here. With our Mazda CX-9, our license plate is still mainly visible from above, but I know some people like to have it further out for extra visibility. You get two keys with this box. And with it in the locked position, you’re not able to open up the latch.

Turn it so you’ll unlock, press the latch, and now we can lift the lid. A quick overview of the box dimensions is you do have 14 cubic feet of space. You have straps included as well as tie down points to hold down whatever cargo you have inside. If you have Thule strollers, you can also store them in here. There’s actually a list of specific strollers that can fit in here. And this is really designed for the larger bulkier items. You do have a weight capacity of 110 pounds though. So just be mindful of that. While the lights are really cool because then you know that you’re safer on the road, people can see that you have extra space that you’re taking up behind you. One thing I did notice is that the license plate light does heat up pretty quickly. Also, there are no interior lights. So if it’s the middle of the night you’re trying to grab some cargo maybe bring a flashlight with you or you can also install your own lights if you want to. So let’s turn this off. So how much length does this add to the back of your vehicle Well, I like to measure from the bumper, right there to the end of the rack or in our case the box. And that’s going to be 42 inches of length. Something to consider if you do have a smaller garage or a small or tight parking spot, definitely make sure you have enough clearance there. Another clearance you’d be interested is ground clearance. If you’ve noticed with the Arcos platform, you do have a little bit of rise there. So from the end of the box to the ground, that’s gonna be 19 inches. Great for if you need to go up steep inclines like high driveways or steep hills. So it’s aerodynamic and it’s designed to make it easier to load and unload your cargo. So because of where it sits and because of how it’s shaped, you can see how it has a slight tilt to it that to be more aerodynamic and that way you can help preserve your gas mileage even with having cargo behind your vehicle. You’ll still feel a little bit of it but not as much as a big sail behind your car. And with that ground clearance, yes, you do clear those driveways and those steep hills, but also it’s not too high up where it makes it bulky to put your heavier, bulkier items inside the box. This is a hard shell box to keep your cargo safe. And the finish is this matte texture. So it’s good because it helps resist scratches although I do notice that it picks up smudges from the hands very quickly. So this is two parts, the Arcos platform and the Arcos box. The box fits onto the platform, the platform fits into your hitch receiver. And it can actually fit inch and a quarter and two-inch hitch receivers because of how it has an included adapter.
