DIY Mazda 6 Cooling Fan Control module troubleshooting and replacement

These are instructions on how to replace the cooling fan control module on a 2006 Mazda 6. However, these modules are common on earlier models as well. Also note on controller failure symptoms. Sometimes the modules will fail because the fans are the root cause of the problem, so it would be wise to verify the fans are in good working order before you replace the module. I recommend you find OEM modules. with part # similar to 1G041-19700.
Also, if you do decide to change the entire fan assembly, please see my DIY video on this.
