Marc brought his Lotus Exige to the Normal Guy Garage so we could flush the brake fluid. It’s really simple on this car and took us less than an hour. Here’s my sort of how to DIY guide to changing the brake fluid on a Lotus Exige.

Lotus owner's manual says to change brake fluid once a year. The front inner bleeder is an aftermarket part and is part of the hose. It's from Inokinetic. Stock has only the outer bleeder. The idea is that the inner piston does not have a path to clear out bubbles. Stock, you have to remove the caliper from the upright and turn it upside down while bleeding to coax bubbles out. The inokinetic bleeder allows to bubbles to release without removing the caliper.

Why isn’t Marc’s channel full of Lotus content?! Love my track toy!

Rakatawhat says:

That motive pressure thingy is the best.

Brandon Lauer says:

Enjoyed the video! I run Lauer Precision Tools, specializing in hand tools. I'd like to send you a few ratchets. Send me a message so we can work something out.

Thanks!

Good video my brother has a lotus Elise fun car

GTpro says:

I find it interesting that not all performance brakes have 2 bleeder screws per caliper. I thought for sure my Genesis Coupe Brembo brake calipers would and come to find once I decided to flush the brake system, there's only one on the outside. That's the factory standard Brembo brakes by the way, in case you wondered how I didn't know. Also, that's when I found my brake fluid to look like a dark murky green color like the ocean. I'm told factory Hyundai brake fluid tends to do that when it goes bad.

GTpro says:

Jeez I could actually hear that bleeder screw break free.

I really enjoy watching your videos. Been watching since day 1. But really would like to see you getting back to working on your Ferrari in your garage. I think that’s what got you to the point you are today. Best of luck

I've had my Elise for 7 years now. Fantastic cars. I highly encourage getting yourself one.

M Public says:

very smart to broaden your audience,. i wonder how many used Ferrari owner are out there? I love the tach T-shirt , getting one this weekend

E4T6 says:

Brake fluid is the ultimate lubrication.

aaron schen says:

Just did this last week on my nearly identical 07 exige s, using the same pressure bleeder. I didn't even touch the inners. Be sure to check the toe link ends particularly if he has the track pack. Mine were completely shot with only 21k miles. If he can run a 12 flat in that car, it aint stock.

Dan C says:

If you want to make this even easier and save some time, you can leave the LSS wheels on and work the bleeders right through the wheel spokes. Just put some rags around the bleeder and on the wheel to catch any fluid in case you have a spill.

Daniel Thomas says:

Lotus equal with Ferrari IMO, love the Elise…

Jonathan Krautter says:

Man, we get a "Spies Like US" reference too?!?!

Julio Blanco says:

Pedal wasn't squishy because the pistons in the calipers didn't move.

kelticdom says:

should be using DOT 5 higher boiling point and no issues upgrading

Alex B. says:

It looks like your camera can’t focus properly most of the times. Is your hand touching the lens focus ring? Or, have you tried to change the camera’s focus settings? Or get a lens with smaller F (better low light performance)? Or use a tripod and manual focus it? Maybe the lens is defective, there are ways to check its focus accuracy (print a focus depth of field chart)
