What the difference i have a 2000 lincoln continental amd my squealing started after my alternator got replace with a used 1 im not sure if it was the belt or pulley making the noise

Check the belt for cracks and replace it if there are any. Also check the belt tensioner to see if it may have lost some of it’s tension. Also check the water pump pulley for play to see if there is play in it. If the bearings are gone in the water pump it could also cause the serpentine belt to squeal. I’ve just had my power steering gear box and pump replaced and am now getting a squeal from what I think is the power steering pully. Could these problems be related, i figured I would change the pully myself as I don’t want to give the shop anymore cash to fix a problem that they may have caused. It was about 2 weeks from time of repair to the start of the squeal
