1962 Lincoln Continental Aftermarket Carter Fuel Pump Install

Here is some video taken after the installation of the aftermarket Carter fuel pump. It seems to idle well, and sounds great. Only problem I can hear now is …

Carl Rudd says:

That’s called ‘Flat-Spot’. Replace accelerator pump to fix. ( I’m sure you’ve done that already). Nice car.

Nic Sanford says:

Not at all. The fuel lines are set up securely, and she runs smooth until heat causes vapor lock. This is primarily caused by ethanol in modern fuels, and can be fixed with a lead additive or electric fuel pump.

JonDavid Anderson says:

Lincoln did this for just that same issue- Hard starting, tip in ( hesitation) and vapor lock.I own a 67 myself and questions just ask

JonDavid Anderson says:

I did not see the by-pass hose to the gas tank which will cause a flooding condition in the 430/462 engines

JonDavid Anderson says:

May I ask you a question? Do you smell a strong odor of gas?

sirboomdotcom says:

Awesome, glad you got it better. Thanks for the insight.

Nic Sanford says:

I just rebuilt the original 3 port Carter and installed it. I also did the generator to alternator conversion and you can tell the difference right away. I did also clean the jets which were a little clogged, not completely but enough to cause it to die out when tapping the gas. I’ll install an EFP soon to prime the rebuilt 3 port…

Nic Sanford says:

You might try a carb rebuild, or replace the fuel pump push rod. If it’s the original, it has a brass slug on the end that wears down over time. If it’s not that, it may be the mechanical pump. A rebuild kit for the pump was like $35 from Lincoln Land…

Nic Sanford says:

I just replaced the push rod so that wasn’t it. I eventually rebuilt the carb again and cleaned the jets. Just put in the original pump I rebuilt and it works like a charm. It does still have mild issues with vapor lock through the city, but I’ll probably hook a priming pump up to it to fix that issue. That is if wrapping my fuel lines doesn’t fix it.

TheChuckslater says:

I have been working on my fathers 62′ and I found that it has an aftermarket electric booster pump installed just inside of the left rear tire on the fuel line. It works to prime the main pump but I am still not getting gas into the carb. I have seen some people have a three port pump instead of the two like on mine and in this video. If anyone has had a successful experience on this problem let me know.

sirboomdotcom says:

By the way, mine does this too so let my know what you end up doing.
