In this video, I am showing how to troubleshoot and fix an airbag warning light with the error code B1861. This error code stands for “Open in knee airbag squib circuit (driver side)”. This issue usually happens on some Lexus, Toyota, or Scion cars. I used an advanced diagnostic scanner to read the error code. After getting the error code I did some research and found out what was causing the problem. You can possibly fix the issue by applying tune-up dielectric grease to the airbag squib connector if the issue is caused by corrosion or oxidation. If this doesn’t help, you will need to replace the airbag squib connector. I decided to attempt to do it myself. I got very lucky because I’ve got a letter from Lexus headquarters saying that this issue is qualified for a free repair under Recall / Customer Support Program (ZLJ). I took my car to Lexus and they took care of everything. If you are having the same exact issue, check on Toyota/Lexus/Scion website if you are qualified for the recall as well. I hope this video was helpful.

I know different electrical connectors have certain little tricks to unplug them. I can’t get mine unplugged and I don’t want to pull on it too hard. Can you let me know how or post a short video?
