Great video. Helped me prepare for my job, thank you. I did manage to actually take out the entire thing without removing ECU box or anything. I just loosened the cable bolts to create slack and removed the black plastic cover just above the water pump. I was able to wiggle it and turn it and eventually got it out.
Thankyou for all that detail and effort. Other vidz I seen don't take ecm out, but I can see it gives you more wiggle room. Mine is a European iS220d much the same. Same symptom, no charging and battery warning on dash, no codes.

Could you access more easily by removing a wheel?
Do not put that bolt back in. It took us for ever to get it out. Did not put it back in. It was the worst alternator ive ever done and im about to do it again. Always get the warrant on rebuilt alternators.
