Customer states there’s a rattle from the sunroof. This is a common rattle for this generation Lexus ES350. We’ll take a listen to the noise first.
It is very important to verify the concern that you have and spend majority of the time in diagnosis. A typical mistake that junior mechanics and\or DIY mechanics make is rush the diagnosis and move on to replacing parts.
I’ll show you how to isolate if this is a seal issue or not. then we’ll move on to the repair.
For the repair I will show you how to replace the Sunroof or moonroof seal on this 2013 Lexus ES350 which not a difficult job to do DIY but there are some precautions to take when handling the sun roof glass.

What do you do if there's rattles when the sunroof is open in the vented position?
This is the reason I don't buy a vehicle with a sunroof/moonroof, also they all eventually leak.
The rubber probably shrank and changed properties over the past 10 years or so. Time for new seals.
Similar issue with the 2nd Gen Tacoma with worn door seals- during yearly temperature changes in-between seasons, you could hear the seal expanding and contracting while sitting still (I observed it myself one day parked in the sun) after the cabin was warmed up, and you'd hear a chattering/tapping noise while driving since the door actually moves quite a bit. The only true fix was to buy new TSB seals.
My son and I both have an ES350, a '12 and '13. Neither had this problem so far but now a video step by step just in case. We'll done! You must have a producer
Hello Car Care Nut, I have a 2000 Avalon with a sunroof that won't open anymore, when I press the open switch, I can hear the solenoid clicking but the sunroof doesn't open. How do I repair this? Thank you!!
