Thank you so much for posting this hood struts fix. I am a 65 yo female, and with the help of my husband and a broom to hold up the hood while making the fix, I was able to remove old ones (after prying clamps off on each end first making it easier to remove the old ones) and replacing with new $20 struts that I bought on Amazon via your link for the struts. Lexus wanted a little over $400 for this 10 minute replacement (which would have probably taken Lexus 3 minutes), and my cost was all of $20. I love youtube and the people that post videos like this! Thanks!!!!!

I have an RX 2011 and the stupid hood struts failed like 2 years ago. Lexus quality my a$$. What a rip off! I was about to call and complain but i guess i was not alone. 🙂 Anyway, i found out a Chinese made pair is like $15. Might last as long as well because i open the hood like 2 times a year lol. Thanks for the video and instructions.

great great video thanks. saved me a bunch of $$ with a diy in like 10 minutes. what also really helped me was adding a lil wd 40 to each piece to make the removal that much easier!!

Just got a quote at the dealership to replace these 2 struts for $450 – I will do it myself!!!

Just finished with both the hood and the cargo lift gate. You might say I've been a bit tardy in getting to these projects. :-} HOOD: I removed a side shroud in order to get to the base of the strut. My recommendation is to flush messing with the "C" clip and removing the shroud. Just carefully use a large screwdriver, twist, and pop the base loose. Easy to do. Also easy to install new ones…..just line up the ends and give them a rap. They'll seat easily. Trying to get the "C" clip back into place can be a hassle if it gets completely removed….learned the hard way. Everything now works like a champ!

Jay Fox says:

Instead of using a long screwdriver to pry off the struts, use a small screwdriver to pop off the "C" clip around the top and bottom connectors. It makes the removable process even easier. Then for the installation of the new ones, just pop the new ones on the top and bottom ball joints on the car (being careful to notice before you remove the old ones, which end of the struct goes on the hood and which goes on the car body!! Believe me – you'll be glad you noticed this before the install – as you get pissed when you have to pry them off and start again!!!!!)

Thumb Up, good demonstration!
