If the melting point of the 4043 rod is 450 degrees Fahrenheit, won’t that have an issue with blowing the head gasket again due to the high combustion chamber temperatures?
ive seen one in junkyard i asked about it and they said the engine “ran away” and “grenaded” itself then i looked and there was 4 huge holes in the block
Is this from a 2004 Freelander? My sister just got rid of hers, it seems to be a real common prob with these ones… less than 50,000 easy miles and the thing blew a headgasket!… Such a lemon! So sad, considering the companies long reputation of building their stuff to be bullet-proof.

I guess this could be a real issue on the block side of things as well. Do you ever have to resurface allow blocks for the same issue?
- toss it.
– 4043 rod, 450 F., between 75 and 250 amps – pedal copntrolled.
– Because you have hot exhaust gasses pushing back and forth between the cylinders in what starts as a small hole and just gets bigger the longer you run it. There is very little back pressure on the exhaust ports so the heat doesn’t build up and melt the surrounding material.
- Resurface runs around $70, valve job around $240 for the pair, parts extra.
how much for this repair or without welding just a resurface and do you reasemple the head
So why don’t exhaust gases have this effect when leaving the exhaust ports? Is it a pressure effect through a narrow outlet(gasket split) that combines to create this effect?

My friend never cleaned his bolt holes out on his turbo escort put a new head gasket on and it burnt a bit of the head off! It was ported etc and he thought it was scrap so chucked it and put a standard one on! he could of got it welded!
