Rebuilding a neglected Land Rover Discovery 1 – Part 1

Rebuilding a neglected Land Rover Discovery 1 – Part 1

Welcome back to the channel guys, and Happy Easter to you all!

In today’s episode I’m going to try to convince you all that a 3 door Discovery 1 is worth saving from the scrap yard!

We’ll start with something simple like getting it up and running with a modern powertrain, who knows where we’ll engine up…

Sean Batley says:

Amazing boys. Different and professional with high standards as the norm in the process. What a wonderful use of a D1 and keeping it alive being such a good donor. Brilliant and excited wondering how this turns out. Keep up the great work boys.

Jono Walker says:

Coniston green with an LED light conversion with frames from Bolt on Bits please.

Smudger Zero-seven says:

Would like to see you or/and team show the dos and don'ts in buying a discovery 1 or 2 etc when we decide to look in buying a potential vehicle (where to look on the vehicle for what and tear, rust, damaged signs etc)

jesse leadbetter says:

I love disco 1’s. I’m on my third now. Would love to see more discovery 1 builds!

John Shaw says:

I far prefer the look of the original 2 door Discovery , I;ve had both 2 and 4 door classics in the past , my 1972 2 door was my favourite , unfortunately the chassis fell apart or I;d still have it

Graham Howland says:

This makes me really miss my old disco probably one of the rarest versions 2l mpi 3door in Epsom green, I’d love to have another early disco but finding one now that hasn’t been molested by the green laning mob, beaten to death by a farmer or totally rotted out is near impossible

a walk says:

I had a 1996 Discovery 300 that was in Rioja Red which is a beautiful deep metallic colour and they look really nice in that colour. To put the car back to that original condition would be super regardless of whatever colour you choose. I think keep the front end as it is, or it may look a bit Frankenstein and the headlights and front wings would also need to be changed.

Bruce Lumsden says:

I thought at the time that the face lifted Dis1 looked much better than the original, still do. The Camel Trophy vehicles often ran standard LR (Defender) rims and tyres, that would be my choice however I am probably dated.
Other matter: in the shed is a reversible plough, is it a Lemkin or a Ransomes? Does it still get used?

Jonathan M. says:

Love to see you guys giving discoveries some love!! Refreshing.

theimbiber says:

Yes something different , yes longer episodes , yes subscription

William Probert says:

I’m a Landrover dealer I’ve got 2 3doors in my own collection one manual one automatic it’s really nice seeing it being saved

andrew gulland says:

I’ve owned 3 D1s, both 200 and 300tdi, and they are the most useful Land Rover you can own.
All mine worked as the school bus, family vehicle, works van, shopping car, holiday expedition vehicle. Sainsburys today, the Serengeti tomorrow!

Dave English says:

td5 looks right at home in there! good choice!

Chris Rea says:

Great series on the Disco 1 engine conversion. The Td5 is my favourite LR motor and also their last one. My last Defender was a 2008 Puma TDi but the Td5 sounds better and is torquier? I live in NZ, age 69 and have owned most variants since '83. I had a V8 Disco 1 which I liked alot but a bit thirsty. I would love to know what you think of the non LR Grenadier by Eneos which I think is the vehicle that all Defender enthusiasts wanted to see as the successor to the last Defender.

Eddie Tucker, Jr. says:

What is the weight difference between the 300tdi vs. the TD5?

Motovlogger says:

The OG in Discovery the rest are just Chelsea Tractors

Allan Davidson says:

Was hoping for the Beemer engine plus 8 spd auto

Michael Hynds says:

What is the beautiful intro music?

The Untraveled Path says:

Great to see a D1! They can be turned into great vehicles.

appelsap87 says:

Wouldn’t it look good if it was painted in keswick green? Together with some nice classic steel wheels and the 200tdi grill and headlights.

Tim Wilson says:

Fortune favours the bold! Love the way you acted on instinct, taking chances with whether it would all marry up. Great to see the donor of my engine getting a ground-breaking project to itself – all power to you, Juice!❤

William Seekins says:

Best series so far!
