That bleed valve is a plastic PoS. Mine just got brittle and cracked one hot day at 113k miles. Folks recommend upgrading those at high mileage. In a pinch I had to just replace it with a short metal tube and hose clamps.

Looks like this is a petrol engine. In the UK, most of the Discovery 3s/LR3s are 2.7TDV6 diesel engines, and the thermostat is different (and more difficult to change)… you have to remove the radiator fan…
