Buying the cheapest Land Rover Series 3

Buying the cheapest Land Rover Series 3

Buying my cheap post-war Land Rover Series 3

With only aluminium left over from world war 2, the Land Rover started production in 1948 from the rover company and used up the metal for their bodies.

This 1972 Series 3 Land Rover I picked up was owned by the previous owner for the last 20 years & is in need of a lot of TLC.

Hope you enjoy the start of my journey, if you do & want to see more, please don’t forget to like it & if you want, subscribe!

Thanks
David

That fairly shiny lump of aluminium on the back of the box is – I am pretty sure – a Fairy Overdrive. Hard to find 40 years ago ,harder still nowadays. It will make road work a lot easier but, may be a little noisy if it has been heavily used.

Wow new Tire

Interesting video. Wish you well in the renovation, it will be uphill for sure. Renovation aside, I thank god I don’t live in the lovely brick paved street near you. If I was working hard to pay a mortgage on a really nice suburban detached home and a messer like you was turning the place into an industrial estate, I would be politely asking you to go elsewhere to a purpose built unit. Good luck and spare a thought for your neighbours.

Humans literally try to touch and pet everything.

Why did people always stick those cheap looking, ugly 8-spoke wheels on Land Rovers? Ugh. I loved my stock 1974 Ser. 3. Same engine.

@Flaming-Hedgehog says:

See heaps of these here in Au. All sitting around just like how you found this one. Everyone starts out wanting to get them back on the road and everyone gives up.

Where can I find series 1 and series 2?

@andrewhaines3259 says:

Lovely little field mouse. Id leave the bodywork as is. Looks great.

@nishlraai says:

I'm excited how this will turn out.

@Gwlyddyn says:

500 quid for a non starting Series 3 is still a bargain. I would have paid that sight unseen.

@BondWarrior says:

Dude, you should of invested in a pressure cleaner

@scottwickham9405 says:

Good luck. Love those wheels 🙂

@Valhallaxp says:

Wow all that grime and grease has protected the chassis .. I assume the underseal ( factory application) is OK… surface rust

@Valhallaxp says:

I'm surprised there wasn't anymore rot in the underside… those chassis are bomb proof .. I hope you don't find hidden horrors on this …

Nice find at that money . The Landrover itself is quite possibly a lot later than the K registration suggests . There,s more chance its an early 1980s model . Rear body is 1982 > / engine is a 5 mainbearing 2286cc diesel / its got servo brakes with the vacuum intake flap valve / all these point to it being an 82/83/84. Of course it could all have been changed in its lifetime . Many were put onto earlier V 5 logbooks to put them into the historic taxation class back in those days . Just be aware if you come to buy parts for it .
