After no joy at the dealers we try and fix the wade sensors on our new Land Rover Defender 2020

In this video we look for the near field sensing module and try and see if we can look into the problem we have with the wade sensors on our Land Rover Defender 2020. We look at the wiring diagram and even get set up with PATHFINDER diagnostics software so we can look into this issue.
In the end we fix the problem but we are not really sure what we fixed… what it just the plugging and unplugging of leads ? was it the drying out of the car electrics ? will we ever know ?

You could have disturbed a dirty or bad connection and all of a sudden it works, this is very common, the trouble is you never really know the real cause. It might come back or it might not…..

My experience with my L494 is the wiring harnesses are stupidly rigid and clipped in really tight that they pull on the connectors which was the trouble with my pas seat airbag sensor activation light. I removed the two cable ties nearest to the underseat connectors and I have never had a problem with the light coming on again even with the seats being moved in to various positions.

I wonder if with everything on top something may have been pulling or pressing on the harness just enough to give you an intermittent fault. Maybe it was the door connector or maybe water issue. Hopefully we will get more feedback.

Main dealers? 95% take your money and don't care. A lot simply don't have a clue about electronics. See land rover still putting modules and multiplugs in sensible places in an off road vehicle! Will they ever learn?

If I was a LandRover dealer I would employ a couple of problem solving mechatronic students to fault find solutions to customers problems and write up service bulletins to share online. Lets face it, modern problems are solved quickly with open forums. Stop being fuckheads land rover, you are nothing without your customer!

Well done Simon you are a legend! I can tell you are an old school technician, you have methodically gone through a logical fault finding process. I get the impression a lot of old skills have been lost with the new generation of mechanics/technicians, its now a case of if "the computer says no" they are flummoxed.

Land Rover mechanics are a joke , I’ve had 3 Freelanders of the years with daft faults that the mechanics made an arse of. My wife used to drive the Freelander for work it was a mk1 td4 from new (bmw owned Land Rover at the time) . She was driving home from work & the car stopped working. By the time I got to her the dealer workshop had closed. When I got to her I could see the accelerator pedal was hanging loose, with the car being a manual I said I would drive the car the 2 miles to the dealer & the wife could drive my van.
Once at the dealers I parked the car next to the new cars at the front of the dealership. The entrance to the workshop is at least 150m to the rear. The next day I got a call from the dealer saying they have put the car on diagnostics & can’t find anything wrong with it & the bill for that is £65 (car was under warranty) . At this point I lost it a little & told the rep to go and have a word with the monkeys who drove the car to the workshop & are repairing it how did they move the car ? I then told her the pedal was hanging loose , 20 mins later the rep called back all apologetic saying the car was ready , a nut had fallen off & that’s why the pedal was loose & the £65 was waved.
I’ve had other bad experiences with other land Rover dealers … putting windscreen wipers on the wrong arms after the linkage had been replaced, never noticed it until it rained & the blades jammed each other.

The brake still won't work but my wife seems to have disappeared 😉

Reminds me of when my DAB wasn’t showing on the screen in my D4. I took the boot side panel out, disconnected the MOST cable from the module, turned the car on and off, reconnected it and hey presto, I had DAB once again.
