Kia Sorento Xtool A30M, Thinktool Thinkdiag 2, and Topdon Topscan Pro dongle shootout.

Kia Sorento Xtool A30M, Thinktool Thinkdiag 2, and Topdon Topscan Pro dongle shootout.

Testing three dongles on a 2012 Kia Sorento with the Xtool A30M, Thinktool Thinkdiag 2, and the Topdon Topscan Pro dongles. With vehicles getting increasingly more complex, there is very little the DIYer can do on their own without buying an expensive scan tool, then learning how to use it. Fortunately, the scan tool manufacturers are introducing fully-functioning dongles that are not only capable of diagnostics, but they are bi-directional as well. Here I use three different dongles on a 2012 Kia Sorento with a reported intermittent misfire and traction control light. I am just learning how to use scan tools so this is not meant to be a tutorial, but for people to see them in action on the same vehicle in order to make a more informed decision if they are looking to buy an affordable alternative to the expensive scan tools on the market. I made a couple of mistakes in the video. The vehicle had a build date of 9/2011 which makes it a 2012 model year. The Thinkcar Thinkdiag 2 did not auto ID the vehicle because one, I didn’t have the ignition turned on, and two, the firmware needed to be updated. So with the updated firmware and the key on, the dongle did auto ID the vehicle with no problem.

Amazon links are affiliate links and I do receive a small commission if you make a purchase using the links at no cost to you. Any purchase is greatly appreciated and helps my channel immensely. I am not sponsored by any of the manufacturers and I bought all of the dongles with my own money.

Links are in no particular order with no endorsement of one tool over another. So far I like all of them and they appear to be equally as capable in performance.

If you want to use the Thinkdiag 2 with an Android tablet you must download the app from the Thinkcar website. I do not know if that would be the same issue with an iPad.

Amazon only has the Topscan Lite. The Topscan Pro is only available from the website as well as the Topscan Lite.
